Simple Chorus

When a couple gallops, couple looks in direction of gallop. When galloping to M’s L. M’s left arm is extended. When galloping to M’s right, M’s left arm is bent at elbow at 90o angle. When one set of couples does their sequence, the other set of couples clap in time with music.

1-4In slightly open ballroom position, Couples 1 & 3 do three gallops (side-close-

side) steps towards each other. On 4th measure, weight is kept on leading foot

and stamp done with trailing foot (which does not take the weight). Acknowledge

opposite with nod.

5-8Couples 1 & 3 do three gallops away back to original position. On 4th measure,

weight is kept on leading foot and stamp done with trailing foot (which does not

take weight).

9-16Couples 1 & 3 do eight gallop steps to opposite side of quadrille, M passing back

to back

17-24Couples 1 & 3 do eight gallop steps back to original position, W passing back to

back

25-48Couples 2 & 4 do the same as Couples 1 & 3 in 1-24

Women’s Circle

1-2W walk into center of quadrille with hands on hips. W 1 & 3 join hands over,

W 2 & 4 join hands under

3-4W 1 & 3 bring joined hands over heads of W 2 & 4 (3), resting them at their back

waists (4). AT THE SAME TIME, W 2 & 4 do a slight squat (3) to allow 1 & 3‘s

hands to pass overhead, then stand (4)

5-6W 2 & 4 bring joined hands over heads of W 1 & 3 (5), resting them at their back

waists (6). AT THE SAME TIME, W 1 & 3 do a slight squat (5) to allow 2 & 4‘s

hands to pass overhead, then stand (6)

7-10In “basket” women do buzz step CW

11-12W break basket and spin out to partner with hands on hips

NOTE: While W are doing this figure, M clap in time with music

Double Chorus

1-4Couples 1 & 3, as ACTIVE COUPLE, do three gallops steps towards each other.

On 4th measure, weight is kept on leading foot and stamp done with trailing

foot (which does not take the weight). Acknowledge opposite with nod.

5-8Couples 1 & 3 do three gallops away back to original position. On 4th measure,

weight is kept on leading foot and stamp done with trailing foot (which does not

take weight). AT THE SAME TIME, Couples 2 & 4 do three gallop steps

towards each other. Acknowledge opposite with nod.

9-16Couples 2 & 4 CONTINUE across to opposite side of quadrille (known as a

“Charge”), M passing back to back. Couples 1 & 3 do eight gallop steps to

opposite side of quadrille, M passing back to back

17-24ALL COUPLES do eight gallop steps back to original position, W passing back to

back. Couples 1 & 3 cross center of circle FIRST.

25-48The 1-24 sequence is repeated with 2 & 4 as Active Couples and crossing the

center of the circle (on 43-48) first

Men’s Circle

1-2M walk to center of quadrille with hands on hips join in shoulder hold

3-10M do a gallop CW

11-12M break shoulder hold and spin out to partner with hands on hips

NOTE:While M are doing their figure, W clap in time with music

Double Chorus Cloverleaf

Same as Double Chorusexcept that:

a. Instead of galloping back to place, when reaching end of 1st outward gallop, Couples.

gallop CCW ¼ of circle (EX: Couple 2 will end up in Couple 1’s position)

b. Couples 1 & 3 will ALWAYS start the gallop sequence

c. After 2nd outward gallop, Couples gallop CW 1/4 of circle back to original position

1

DER MANN IM HEU - Westfalen

1 & 3 Chain

1-2Couples 1 & 3 walk to center slightly to the right so that Couples are not in front

of each other

3-4M turn by joined left hands CCW ½ around, W turn ½ around CW in place {At

this point, M are facing original position, W facing opposite position}

5-6M turns opposite W by right hand CW ½ around {At this point, M are facing

opposite position, W facing original}

7-8W turn by joined left hands CCW ½ around, M turn 1 complete CW turn in place

{At this point, M are facing opposite position, W facing original}

9-10M turns W CW 1½ times around under joined R hands, switching to W’s L hand

as turn is completed, starting back into original place {At this point, Couples are

nearly side-by-side facing opposite position}

11-12Couples 1 & 3 back into original position to get ready for next chorus

Double Chorus Spin

All couples need to be slightly off position CW with respect to opposite to allow room for spins and changes. When W does spin, left hand goes straight don at side. Spin means W continues in the direction she started, Change means she will go back to her starting point with M

Same as Double Chorus, except:

a. When Couples 1 & 3 start their chorus, on the third measure, W is spun CW under L

hand ½ turn to opposite M so that return gallop and first outward gallop is done with opposite {SPIN}.

b. As Couples 1 & 3 do return gallop, 2 & 4 start in. When they reach center, W do half

turn CW in place to be picked up by M who is continuing charge across the quadrille {CHARGE}

c. When Couples 2 & 4 start their chorus, they do the same as 1 & 3 above {SPIN} while

1 & 3 do the same as 2 & 4 above {CHARGE}

NOTE: As Couples 2 & 4 start their chorus, each person is dancing with their OPPOSITE. When the Spins and Charges are finished, everyone should be back with own partner at original position.

2 & 4 Women Fly

1-2Couples 2 & 4 walk into center of quadrille into “flying position”: M are L

shoulder to L shoulder facing out with R arm firmly around partner’s waist, L arms entwined and behind other M. W have L arm behind partner’s back and joined with opposite W’s L hand in a wrist hold. W’s R hand grips M’s R hand at her waist. This handhold is a suggestion. Find one that works for you.

3-10Couples start spin around central point gathering momentum quickly and enough

so that centrifugal force lifts the W off the ground. As they begin to rise, W bring

their feet together and bend knees slightly. M are NOT to lift the W without help

from the spin. SPEED IS IMPORTANT. Also, flying does NOT last more than

TWO measures.

11-12Couples 2 & 4 come out of spin backing into position for next chorus

Double Chorus Spin & Cloverleaf

A combination of Double Chorus Spinand Double Chorus Cloverleaf. Couples 1 & 3 ALWAYS do the Spin to change W, Couples 2 & 4 ALWAYS do the Charge to change W.

Circle

1-16Same as Circle at beginning of dance except that couples ends up in quadrille

dance rest position with a hop into original position.
