Ark Boulton Academy joined the Ark network in September 2015 and is a 6 form entry secondary school (11-16) in Sparkhill, Birmingham. Chosen by the students, the school is named after Matthew Boulton, a prominent Birmingham manufacturer, reflecting the industrial and entrepreneurial spirit of the city. Ark Boulton joins Ark’s thriving hub of primary and secondary schools in Birmingham.

We are now looking for a Deputy Catering Manager/Assistant Chef to assist with all aspects of food preparation, food service, kitchen hygiene supervision and other duties associated with the running of the academy’s kitchen. You will report to the Catering manager but act as deputy in his absence.

Reports to:Catering Manager

Salary: Support staff, Ark scale 5, spine point 15, £16,395 per annum, pro rata. Actual salary £14, 331.88

The Role

To assist the Catering Manager with all aspects of food preparation, food service, kitchen hygiene supervision and other duties associated with the running of the academy’s kitchen.

Responsibilities

  • To assist in the planning and preparation of menus
  • To assist in the planning, preparation and cooking of food including for special days and functions
  • To assist with stock control/ stock ordering and stock takes
  • To receive and check supplies and store safely
  • Deputise for Catering Manager as and when needed
  • To instruct and make sure catering assistants are following rotas and health and safety policies to have a smooth running kitchen, working as a team
  • To attend training when required

  • To undertake various other responsibilities as directed by the team manager

Qualification Criteria

  • Right to work in the UK.

Experience

  • Experience as a chef with catering experience in a school (desirable)
  • Understanding of COSSH, Health and Safety and following of policies
  • Experience of working with children (desirable)

  • Hard working, conscientious and organised
  • Excellent team player, helpful, friendly and willing to undertake extra tasks (as and when necessary)
  • Good role model for both students and staff, with high expectations for self and others
  • Genuine interest in and willingness to help children to learn how to eat healthily
