Position Title: Research Assistant

Supervising Faculty: Miruna Petrescu-Prahova

Employment Period: October 1, 2017 – September 15, 2018

Hours/FTE: 10 hours/week (25% FTE)

Position Description:

The RA will work on the research study entitled, “Improving adherence to treatment for hypertension control” (Miruna Petrescu-Prahova, PI). The purpose of this exploratory study is to better understand facilitators and barriers to adherence to hypertension control treatment among vulnerable populations in Washington State. This study is part of a four-year project to provide technical assistance to the Washington State Department of Health (DOH).

The primary role of the RA is to conduct a literature review of existing toolkits and guidelines for improved adherence, collect and analyze interview data for the study, and collaborate on writing the final report to DOH.

Duties and Responsibilities:

·  Conduct literature review

·  Contribute to development of interview guides

·  Recruit participants: people living with hypertension and providers treating people living with hypertension

·  Conduct interviews

·  Collaborate on developing the codebook for analyzing the interview data and analyzing the data with the study team

·  Collaborate on preparing a report summarizing study findings

·  Meet regularly with the UW project team, and collaborate on communication with the team, DOH, and other stakeholders.

Minimum Education Required:

·  Current Master’s student

Required Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:

·  Experience conducting, coding and analyzing qualitative interviews

Desired Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:

·  Experience conducting qualitative interviews with participants from vulnerable population groups.

Eligibility:

·  Must be a matriculated student during the employment period stated above

·  Must be registered for 10 credits during autumn, winter, and spring quarters

Salary: This is an Academic Student Employee (ASE) position governed by the UAW Contract and paid in accordance with the TA/RA Salary Schedule associated with the student’s academic department. Department of Health Services students are paid according to the Regular Salary Schedules. An increase in salary occurs in July.

Tuition: This position does not include a tuition waiver.
