POSITION: Graduate Assistant in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Priority consideration will be given to applications received by March 15, 2016. Review of applications will continue until positions are filled.

DATE OF APPOINTMENT: August 15, 2016; 2016-2017 Academic Year

SALARY: The stipend for each academic semester is $5,600(Graduate Assistantships are approximately 16 weeks, beginning the first day of classes each semester and working through the last day of finals week). In addition, the Graduate School provides a partial tuition waiver of six semester hours of graduate credit on a full-time (20 hr/week) appointment.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The assistantship duties require work in one of five areas in Exercise and Sport Science. A brief description follows for each position:

Athletic Training: This graduate assistant will teach one or two PHE 190/390 activity courses each semester,assist the faculty in Athletic Training Education in their teaching assignments,research, administer examinations, laboratory meetings, and administrative duties for the AT program. BOC certification and state licensure is recommended.

Exercise Physiology: This graduate assistant will assist the Harold Z. HolmesExercise Physiology Laboratory coordinator with undergraduate labs inPhysiology of Exercise (PHE 325), Lifetime Wellness (PHE 180) as well as ongoing research. The assistant will also help with Foundations of Sport Science (PHE 201).

Exercise and Wellness: This graduate assistant will teach one or two undergraduate PHE 190/390 activity courses each semester, assist with classes and labs in Physical Fitness Concepts and Applications (PHE 315), Strength and Conditioning (PHE 407), and Fitness Program Administration (PHE 430), Adult Fitness Programs (PHE 433) as well as assist with research in the field.

Physical Education Pedagogy/Developmental Adapted Physical Education: This graduate assistant will teach one or two PHE 190/390 activity courses each semester, assist in coordinationthe Kentucky Adapted Physical Education program, assist with Exercise for Adults with Chronic Conditions program, and help faculty with research and marketing the programs.

Sport Management: This graduate assistant will assist faculty members with their teaching assignments, teach one to two PHE 190/390 activity courses, and help conduct research, market the program, and assist in expanding cooperative educational partnerships with sport management organizations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree.

Admitted to Eastern Kentucky University Graduate School by start date.

Enrolled in a minimum of nine (9) credits per semester during assistantship.

Minimum GPA of 3.0 of undergraduate work.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Possess high potential for graduate study in one of the specializations in the Department of Human Performance.

Enrolled in an Exercise and Sport Science graduate program (Athletic Training; Exercise and Sport Science; Exercise and Wellness; or Sports Administration).

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated problem-solving skills.

Ability to work independently and cooperatively.

Demonstrated attention to detail.

Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
