Academic Standard(s) Motor Skills and Movement Patterns: Students demonstrate competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities, Movement Concepts: Students demonstrate an understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities., Responsible Personal and Social Behavior: Students exhibit responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings.

Performance Objectives

C-The students will be able to tell me how to perform the backhand strike by tell me the first step which is the same side you are hitting with should be at the target with 85% accuracy

A- The student will be able to work well with each other by not fighting or arguing 100% of the time

P-The Students will be able to hit the ball by using the first few steps in the backhand strike, both hands on racquet watch the ball and make contact 7 out of 10 times

Equipment/Materials: 20 racquets, 6 balloons, 20 cones, 6 soft balls, 6 regular balls, 2 hoops

Skill Development

Instant Activity- the 6 drills to help work on manipulative skills

Fitness Activity- Have the students do pushups and sit ups while they are with their head teacher at the end

Introduction/Set Induction-today we are going to be learning how to use the backhand strike. There are lots of fun games that you use the backhand strike in, such as tennis, badminton, and racquet ball. All of these games are very fun and will get a lot of enjoyment when you get to play them.

Review-Who remembers what, happened last week? It’s a lot like what we are doing this week. Who wants to show me what they learned last week?

Introduce New Skill

Explanation/Demonstration-There are 6 easy steps to the backhand stroke. Step 1 get in the ready position, knees bend arms ready holding the racquet. Steps 2 make sure your body is facing the same side as your target. Step 3 both hands should be pulled back a crossed your body. Steps 4 keep your eyes on the object. Step 5 step and swing through the object. Steps 6 follow through high. I will also be doing these steps with the students. (Gardner- visual, auditory)

Guided Practice Activity- The students will be at 3 different stations. The first station will have them each with a racquet and they will try and balance a ball on their racquet and roll in around without dropping it. 2nd station they will have a partner and they will have one partner throw it and the other partner will hit it back softly using the backhand. 3rd station they will have to use the backhand technique and have a racquet and they will have to keep the balloons up. Instructional Adjustments- If the student isn’t able to grip the racquet or isn’t strong enough to then we can adjust and get a smaller racquet for the individual.

Closure- Did everyone have fun today? What was the skill we learned? Who wants to show me? Well next week you will be doing the TGMD. (bloom- Knowledge)
