Assessment of Pupil Achievement

TheShanghaiYewWahInternationalEducationSchool, in conjunction with the University of Bath, UK,offers an opportunity for qualified educators to participate in the University’s MAin Education programmes.

The full MA programme typically comprises five or six taught units and a dissertation. Taught units consist of twenty four hours teaching by a University of Bath lecturer. This taught input is followed by individual research and the submission of a 5000 word written assignment

The unit to be taught in Shanghaiin November 2009 will be ‘Assessment of Pupil Achievement’. This unit coversa number of issues including:the nature of educational assessment; purposes, roles and effects of assessment; assessment for learning and assessment of learning; the substantive focus of assessment; quality issues in assessment – reliability, validity, equity and fitness for purpose; assessment techniques; norm- and criterion-referencing, and the assessment of competence; internal and external assessment; self- and peer-assessment; marking, moderating and reporting outcomes.

Participants may use the Masters level credits gained by successful completion of this unit towards their application for recognition through the International Baccalaureate (IB) Teacher Award Scheme. Further information on this can be found at and also at

The fee for this 12 credit unit will be £650 for Home/EU students and £800 for Overseas students, payable in pounds sterling in advance. You may pay using a variety of methods--please see reverse side for details of payment methods.

An administrative charge of RMB 2100.00 yuan will also be levied locally to cover tutor costs, refreshments and other relevant costs, and this should be paid direct to the School.

Students new to the MA Programme must first complete a full Part-time Application Form and send this to Kath Earle () in the MA Office so that the University can ensure that they meet the Programme’s entry requirements.Students already registered on the MA in Education Programme need complete only the Unit Enrolment section found on page one of the Part-time ApplicationForm.
