CHILD PROTECTION POLICY
(Provisions on prohibited acts,intervention program)
Basag Elementary School adheres to a zero tolerance policy for any act of child abuse,exploitation,violence,discrimination bullying and other forms of abuse.
The school does not in any way assign children to perform tasks which are hazardous to their physical well-being .Such tasks include:
a. Asking children to carry heavy objects
b. Forcing the child to watch obscene publications and indecent shows
c. Psychological violence such as intimidation, harassment, public ridicule, deductions or threat of deduction from grade or merit as a form of punishment and repeated verbal abuse.
The school strictly monitors any cases of bullying or peer abuse. Such act may consist of any one or more of the ff:
A.Threat to inflict a wrong upon a person, or property of the person or on his family.
B.Taking of property
C.public humiliation or public and malicious imputation of a crime or of a vice or defect, whether real or imaginary.
D.deliberate destruction or defacement of damage to the child’s property
e.mauling, hitting, punching, kicking, throwing things to the student
f.Demanding or requiring sexual or monetary favors or exacting money or property from a pupil or student
g.restraining the liberty and freedom of a student.
Basag Elementary school strongly discourages and in NO way will practice Corporal punishment which includes:
a. Blows such as beating, kicking slapping or lashing, of any part of a child’s body, with or without the use of an instrument such as cane, broom, stick whip or belt.
b.striking of a child’s face or head such being declared as a “no contact zone”.
c.Pulling hair, shaking ,twisting joints, cutting or piercing skin,dragging,pushing or throwing of a child.
d.forcing a child to perform physically painful or damaging acts such as holding a weight for an extended period and kneeling on stones,salt,pebbles or other objects.
e.deprivation of a child’s physical needs as a form of punishment
f.deliberate exposure to fire ,ice, water, smoke ,sunlight rain, pepper alcohol or forcing the child to swallow substances, dangerous chemicals
g.tying up a child
h.confinement, imprisonment or depriving the liberty of a child
I.verbal abuse or assault including threat, swearing or cursing, ridiculing.
J.forcing a child to wear a sign to undress or disrobe or to put on anything that will make a child look or feel foolish
K.permanent confiscation of personal property of pupil.
Duty of Teachers and Administrators
All teachers and administrators of the school dealing with children shall report all incidents of possible child abuse.
1. There will be a system for the teachers and personnel to follow in cases of abuse. They will be trained on the legal and ecological aspects of identifying and reporting child abuse cases.
2. LAC session will be done on regular basis.
3. There will be staff members to receive reports and coordinate suspected child abuse cases, in this case the child protection committee.
4. The Principal will issue a directive to school CPC requiring the reporting of all cases of abuse to the designated coordinator.
5. Teach children how to recognize situations that may lead to abusive actions and how to prevent them. These may be included in the homeroom discussions and in the Science and Makabayan classes. Posters on child abuse recognition and prevention may be part of art works and school projects.
6. Involve parents and community in child abuse prevention training through the Parents, Teachers, and Community Association.
7. Moreover, There is a Child abuse report form to be filled up for documentation of the case.
8. Once reported and when the child discloses either verbally or in writing, the teacher-confidant will document any evident injuries and fills up the form. Then will be reported to the Staff Coordinator who will assess immediate medical needs or either way inform the Principal and non-offending parent.
9. The staff coordinator has to submit reports to DSWD, Police or BCPC. If there is medical need to attend to, the teacher will bring to hospital/child protection unit. The authorized Agency will be the one to do home visit, interview the child and accompany child for medical exam.
This policy has been made available for the School Personnel and PTA officers and members.
