Student Advisement Notes

·  Students must follow the course requirements as outlined in the College catalog for the year matriculated (requirements may change from year to year). Please download the College catalog atwww.farmingdale.edu/registrar/catalog.shtmland read all criteria for completing the degree.

·  Before meeting with your advisor, please log on to DegreeWorks and use it as an integral part of your course selection process and degree status.

·  All students must meet with their assigned faculty advisor to obtain an Alternate PIN. Students are expected to prepare a list of courses they plan on taking prior to the meeting. Alternate PINs cannot be given out without advisement (either in person or via email); no exceptions!

·  Students must follow all prerequisites. Rare exceptions are made at the discretion of the faculty and the Dept. Chair in writing.

·  Faculty cannot make course substitutions, only the Dept. Chair can do so in writing.

·  Faculty cannot overload a course, the Dept. Secretary keeps a waiting list for courses.

·  Faculty cannot do transfer credit evaluations on the spot. Transcripts need to be submitted for formal review along with credit by evaluation as outlined in the catalog. Once this is complete, it will be official and appear on DegreeWorks and OASIS.

·  The Department has lists of approved technical electives in the curriculum. It also has lists for approved science / math electives. There is no guess work, please see Dept. Secretary for these lists or download them on-line from the Department web page.

·  The College Catalog lists the General Education Requirements and electives. You must select from this list (use the year you matriculated); no substitutions can be made.

·  If you are receiving Financial Aid, you cannot take any course outside of the requirements;theDept. Chair will be notifiedand youstand to lose your financial aid money.

·  Make sure to maintain a 2.0 or above overall GPA and a grade of C or better in EGL 101, EGL 102 and your Writing Intensive Course in the Discipline (CON 401W or ARC 350W). These courses cannot be substituted or waived.

·  When you are being advised, please keep in mind that the faculty are not certifying the courses you have selected and there is no guarantee implied. They are doing so from the limited information you are supplying with the understanding that you will be successful in passing the courses you are currently taking. Ultimately you are responsible for meeting the all the requirements for graduation as set forth in the College Catalog for the year you matriculated.
