Title:Support Worker

Department: Inspire Disability Services

Reports t0: Team Leader

Main function:To provideprofessional, innovativehigh quality, care and support to Service Userswith learning disabilities to ensure they live healthy, productive lives and are supported to achieve their full potential within all aspects of their lives.

Main duties and responsibilities are to:

  1. Customer & Client Focus
  1. Develop and maintain a trusting and professional relationship with Service Users and act in a supportive and empatheticmanner towards them.
  2. Display compassion and sensitivity to Service Users and next of kin needs.
  3. Contribute towards a harmonious and therapeutic environment.
  4. Support Service Users to manage their physical health, mental healthand wellbeingthrough the development and implementation of an individualsupport plan.
  5. Identifies problems and issues and works with the Service User to provide the most appropriate solutions to promote wellbeing for all.
  6. Involve Service Users in all aspects of decision making and be sensitive to difficulties encountered by Service Users.
  7. Under supervision and guidance, deliver care and support which enable residents and Service Users to improve or develop social, domestic, personal and community living skills as defined within their personal support and care plan and identified outcomes.
  8. Provide care and support by motivating, mentoring and empoweringService Users in the following areas:
  9. Housekeeping duties as required e.g. domestic/cleaning skills, meal preparation, shopping and budgeting.
  10. Receiving or managing their medication where appropriate.
  11. Maintain contacts and appointments in the community using own transport, where relevant.
  12. Liaise with external agencies when required.
  13. Maintain standards of hygiene and support in relation to infection control.
  14. Assist in planning, organising and participating in individual or group outreach activities both within the scheme and in the community, including holidays and outings and accompanying Service Users as required.
  15. Offer advice and support for personal safety and security.
  16. Promote positive health choices and healthy life styles.
  17. Actively promote Service User involvement.
  18. Advocate for Service Users as required.
  19. To ensure safe custody and appropriate documentation of all monies held on behalf of the organisation and Service Users.
  20. Ensure receipts obtained for all transactions executed on behalf of the organisation or Service User
  21. Participate in completing risk assessments where staff andService Usersare likely to be vulnerable.
  22. Work towards reducing the stigma experienced with complex learning / mental disabilities.
  1. To intervene appropriately to resolve situations arising out of conflict or challenging behaviours.
  1. Effective Communication
  2. Communicate regularly, consistently and in a timely manner to keep everyone appropriately informed.
  3. Make effective and appropriate use of available communication processes.
  4. Choose the most appropriate technique to communicate message.
  5. Actively engage in the giving and receiving of feedback in order to highlight areas of improvement and lessons learnt.
  6. Attend, and actively participate in, handovers and team meetings.

  3. Monitor and ensure professional registration is maintained at all times, where applicable.
  4. Follow and adhere to the relevant policies and procedures in completing their work as laid out by department, organisation and legislation/ regulation.
  5. Use the Inspire Performance Management System appropriately as a framework for ongoing quality discussions with their line manager.
  6. Share knowledge and expertise to promote high levels of trust and to foster a climate of learning and development and supports it from others.
  7. Identify and understand own strengths and development needs and takes personal responsibility for their continued development.
  8. Engage with and make use of development opportunities to enhance personal practice.

  1. Be an integral part and work in close co-operation with, all members of the Inspire Disability Services support team and representatives of relevant statutory, voluntary and regulatory bodies to achieve standards set by them.
  2. Contribute to the team’s performance and take appropriate action to maintain high levels of performance and positive team dynamics, particularly through periods of change.
  3. Take accountability, responsibility and ownership for the delivery of all results, delegated or otherwise.
  4. Project a positive image and reputation of Inspire in your dealings with others and ensure, by your actions, the on-going confidence of the public.
  5. Encourage, recognise and celebrate innovative ideas and team achievements.

  1. Contribute to the conditions for high levels of staff wellbeing by providing ideas, leadership and

encouragement.

  1. Support the development of Inspire’s staff wellbeing strategy by suggesting wellbeing initiatives

and ideas.

  1. Promote a culture of wellbeing for all, through personal commitment and participation, and

encouraging engagement in wellbeing initiatives.

  1. Set annual wellbeing objectives.
  2. Encourage colleagues to discuss and take responsibility for their own wellbeing

  1. General
  1. Members of staff are expected to treat those with whom they come into contact in a courteous and respectful manner in accordance with the Dignity at Work Procedure.
  2. Staff are expected to demonstrate their commitment to Inspire by their regular attendance and the efficient completion of all tasks allocated to them.
  3. All staff must comply with the Smoke Free Policy and associated procedures.
  4. All Staff must take care of their own health and safety and that of people who may be affected by what they do (or do not do).
  5. All staff must co-operate with others on health and safety, and not interfere with, or misuse, anything provided for their health, safety or welfare.
  6. All staff must follow the training they have received when using any work items their employer has given them.
