Responsible to:Reprographics Digital Operations Supervisor.

Main areas of responsibility:

1.To operate reprographic equipment and to carry through the production and finishing of printed materials.

2.To assist in the maintenance of reprographic equipment, stocks and systems.

3.To contribute towards the smooth delivery of reprographic services, and to participate in their improvement.

4.To run and maintain the offset production machinery and other reprographic equipment including digital plate making.

Specific duties:

1.To operate reprographic equipment and to carry through the production and finishing of printed materials.

1.1To operate any digital printing equipment within the reprographics unit in colour and monochrome.

1.2To operate all ancillary print finishing equipment, including binding, stapling, collating, padding and folding machines.

1.3To ensure the highest quality of output in all operations.

1.4To operate all equipment according to current health and safety legislation and to local codes of health and safety practice.

1.5To develop an understanding of digital printing preparation, network and other reprographics-related ICT systems, and to operate them when required.

2.To assist in the maintenance of reprographic equipment, stocks and systems.

2.1To keep machinery in a top-quality, clean and safe operating condition.

2.2To provide preventive first-line maintenance.

2.3To rectify minor running faults in machinery.

2.4To assist other reprographics staff in maintaining stocks of materials and spares required for the effective delivery of reprographics services.

2.5To assist other reprographics staff in identifying and sourcing routine consumables, hardware and software for reprographics ICT systems and services.

3.To contribute towards the smooth delivery of reprographics services, and to participate in their improvement.

3.1To assist all reprographics services staff in the discharge of their duties when urgent priorities require.

3.2To receive delivery of print materials from commercial suppliers as necessary.

3.3To liaise with reprographics services customers and colleagues when required, and to assist in the resolution of priority issues where necessary.

3.4To participate, with other reprographics staff, in the improvement in routines and techniques within the print unit.

3.5To participate, with other reprographics staff, in the improvement of services to users, by making suggestions and implementing new practice.

3.6Undertake other duties appropriate to the grade of the post as agreed with the Reprographics Service Manager.

4.To run and maintain the offset production machinery and other reprographic equipment including digital plate making.

4.1To operate the offset printing machines, printing and copying equipment within the reprographics unit in colour and monochrome.

4.2To carry out the making of plates where necessary.

4.3To operate all ancillary print finishing equipment, including binding, stapling, collating, padding, folding and perforating machinery.

4.4To develop an understanding of pre-press, network and other reprographics-related ICT systems, and to operate when required.

4.6Undertake other duties appropriate to the grade of the post as agreed with the Digital Operations Supervisor.

Selection criteria:Essential:

Knowledge/qualifications:

Good general standard of education to GCSE level,

Knowledge of offset litho printing machines,

Desktop computer systems,

Software including Microsoft office,

Email and internet browsers;

Knowledge of modern digital reprographic

Digital plate-making.

Desirable:

  • Experience in an institutional or commercial digital printing environment.
  • Experience of using Adobe applications like Photoshop, InDesign and acrobat professional.
  • Has an understanding of the safe operation of digital equipment and is aware of the possible associated hazards.
  • Experience in a service environment and familiarity with dealing with customers.
  • Demonstrable interest in computing technologies.
  • Knowledge of relevant health and safety requirements.
