JOB TITLE: Database Development Officer

1.  MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

To be responsible for the development and maintenance of the Contact Relationship Management (CRM) system on a day-to-day basis. To continually police the security and quality of data. To provide custom reports and dashboards to end users.

2.  POSITION IN ORGANISATION

·  Reports into: Data Manager

·  Line Manages: N/A

·  Liaises with: Staff at all levels within the General Office and works closely with Data Assistants/Officers within the organisation

·  Works within a team of: 6 (IS Team)

3.  SCOPE OF JOB

·  Planning of Work to Deliver System Development Projects

·  Assist the IS Team in the Implementation & Development of CRM System

·  Ensuring Quality of Systems

·  Maintenance & Support of the CRM System

·  Continual Improvement in the area of data and technology

4.  DIMENSIONS AND LIMITS OF AUTHORITY

·  Creating, Updating, Amending or Deleting Data from CRM Test and Development environments

·  Responsible for the release management and installation of CRM related software

5.  QUALIFICATIONS

·  A computer-related university degree would be a significant advantage as would Microsoft or other recognised certification and membership to industry bodies (e.g. BCS).

6.  SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate considerable (and current) experience developing and maintaining CRM applications.

Key technical skills required include:

·  Minimum of 2 years experience developing and maintaining complex CRM solutions (preferably Ascent CRM)

·  Good knowledge of the logic and structure of relational databases

·  SQL Server and T-SQL experience querying and manipulating data

·  Experience analysing information and creating data mining solutions using Microsoft Reporting Services and Microsoft Excel. Experience of QlikView would be an advantage

·  Document writing (both technical and end user)

·  Experience using source code control software (preferably subversion)

·  Identifying optimisation and enhancement opportunities

·  Ability to accurately estimate required man hours for assigned tasks

·  Ability to work to and meet deadlines

PART 2: DUTIES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Planning of Work to Deliver System Development Projects

·  Working with senior management to ensure key functionalities are delivered and understood

·  Gather and analyse user/organisational requirements

·  Generating detailed process maps for fundraising, finance, volunteer and business workflows

·  Prepare, clear and precise project documentation to develop and support software systems

·  Monitor project plans and take appropriate action where necessary

Implementation & Development of CRM System

·  Building custom reports and dashboards specific to job functions and roles

·  Importing and exporting of data as required to synchronise back-end systems

·  Working within the IS team to manage project implementation and systems integration

·  Maintain application/project documentation and source repositories

Quality of Systems

·  Ensure that the system is fit for business purpose and in line with the signed off / agreed requirements documentation

·  Establish and maintain configuration/development standards

·  Responsible for release management and installation of software and ensure that all changes have rollback plans

Maintenance & Support of the CRM System

·  Providing help and support for all system users via the IS Support Desk system

·  Providing a central point of contact for all change request and system alterations

·  Creating or updating training manuals, policies and procedures

·  Policing of company data ensuring its integrity and accuracy at all times and reporting improper usage to the senior management

·  Enforcing new user adoption by monitoring login history

·  Establish and maintain regular maintenance programmes to continually tune and enhance the application

·  Maintaining control of access rights, security settings and user privileges

Continual Improvement in the area of data and technology

·  To support the organisation in its drive toward data mastery and improved Business Intelligence.

·  Keep abreast of technology developments both within and outside of Samaritans’ industry through creating a network of colleagues and attending industry / technology seminars as appropriate to help Samaritans deliver and maintain competitive advantage.
