A Brief overview of course:
The course focuses on Population data, procedure and problems of population data collection.
It emphasizes on world population growth, patterns of population distribution and trends of change.
It also examines world major regions and their characteristics, nature and resources and factors on which exploitation of resources depend. The course will talk about theories and concepts of population as well as determinants and spatial aspects of mortality, fertility and migration.
B Course Objectives:
At the end of this course students are expected to:
· explain the various concepts of population
· Identify the difference between primary and secondary data sources.
· explore world population growth and pattern of distribution,
· recognize determinants and spatial aspects of population processes
C Methods of Lecture Delivery
D Course Outlines:
Module 1:
Introduction and Definition of Concepts. Examine population Data as Vital Statistics, Procedure and problems of population data collection including census.
Module 2
Historical outline of world population growth. Patterns of population distribution and
Trends of change. Causes of population growth and consequences of population growth.
Module 3
World major regions and their characteristics. Nature and resources and factors on which exploitation of resources depend.
Module 4
Determinants and spatial aspects of mortality, fertility and migration. Implications of rapid population growth on national resources. Theories of population.

Mandatory 75% class attendance to be eligible for examination
No eating in the classroom during lecture
Active participation in all activities
All class assignments to be submitted on time

New generation of leaders should have good quality life and the course aims to improve the quality of life of Nigerians as well as the entire Black race through realistic data based planning and sound manipulation of population processes.
J. Contemporary issues/Industry relevance:
The problems engendered by rapid population growth also extended to population statistics and thereby hindering population related policy needed in developing countries including Nigeria. Thus, it enhances the knowledge on data collection and management leading to better planning and overall improvement in the quality of life.
