Demurrage Analyst/Barge Operations

The Demurrage Analyst is an integral component of the business team. Our team members interact internally with traders, operations, IT professionals, contract administration, accounting, and credit, while working externally with demurrage counterparts.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze and negotiate demurrage claims from ship/barge owners and third-party customers in line with charter party and commercial contract terms
  • Invoice third party customers in line with charter party and commercial contract terms
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external customers
  • Actively communicate with counterparties to ensure timely collection of receivables
  • Report status of demurrage negotiations to traders
  • Work closely with accounting to ensure efficient processing of demurrage payables and proper billing of receivables
  • Communicate with shipping group to proactively avoid potential demurrage issues
  • Thoroughly review contracts and advise traders when laytime and demurrage language requires realignment. Review third-party contracts and proposals for potential commercial risk.
  • Analyze demurrage trends to understand business changes and advise trading group in ways to minimize future risk

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree related discipline
  • Relevant experience in demurrage, marine operations or trading environment
  • 2 years demurrage analysis experience preferred
  • Ability to analyze data with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to effectively and professionally communicate through both written correspondence and verbal communication
  • Must be a team-player and have a high level of motivation
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Shipping knowledge preferred
  • Exposure to contract interpretation and strong negotiation skills preferred
