NEWS RELEASE

Primary elections in BroomeCounty will be conducted as scheduled on Tuesday September 13, 2011. The Broome County Board of Elections has developed a plan to mitigate the effects of the catastrophic flood on election operations and to accommodate displaced voters to the extent possible. As a result of flood conditions, some polling sites have been changed as identified below. Voters unable to travel to poll sites because of the flooding will be able to call the Board of Elections at 778-2172 for shuttle service.
1. Voters registered as Republican in the Village of Johnson City will decide among Bruce C King/Luke Slota/John S Sullivan for two positions as Republican nominees for Village Trustee. The polling sites in Johnson City have been consolidated into one super site at the Johnson CityHigh School. All Republican voters will be able to cast ballots at the Johnson CityHigh School.
A shuttle service will run continuously through the Village of Johnson City to transport voters to the high school and back. The route is displayed in the attached map. The shuttle will pick up voters at existing B.C. Transit stops on the route.
2. Voters registered with the Democratic Party in Binghamton City Council District 3will decide between Garo Kachadourian/Teri Rennia for a position as Democratic nominee for City Council. The polling sites in this district remain unchanged. Voters should report to the site identified in the card mailed to them by the Board of Elections.
3. Voters registered with the Independence Party in Binghamton City Council District 4 will decide between Pat Russo/write-in for a position as Independence nominee for City Council. The polling sites in this district remain unchanged, with one exception. Those assigned to vote at 45 Exchange Street have been reassigned to the LoyalGreenmunCenter at 37 Pine Street.All other voters should report to the site identified in the card mailed to them by the Board of Elections.
4. Voters registered with the Independence Party in Binghamton City Council District 5 will decide between Chris Papastrat/Write-in for a position as Independence nominee for City Council. The polling sites in this district remain unchanged, with two exceptions. Those assigned to vote at the Park AvenueBaptistChurch and MacArthurElementary School have been reassigned to the Knights of Columbus on 136 Park Avenue. All other voters should report to the site identified in the card mailed to them by the Board of Elections.
5. Voters registered with the Independence Party in the Town of Vestal will have an opportunity to write-in a nomination for Town Supervisor. The polling sites in Vestal have been consolidated into one super site at the AfricanRoadMiddle School. All Independence Party voters will be able to cast ballots at the AfricanRoadMiddle School.
6. Voters registered with the Republican Party in the Town of Kirkwood will decide between William James Martin II/Michael L Brand for a position as Republican nominee for Highway Superintendent. The polling sites in Kirkwood remain unchanged. Voters should report to the site identified in the card mailed to them by the Board of Elections.
The Board of Elections will be sending inspectors to the shelters housing evacuees. Eligible voters at those shelters will be provided with absentee ballots and be permitted to vote in that fashion if they choose to do so.
Board of Elections personnel will be stationed at the closed poll sites to redirect voters to the proper site.
Although a dedicated shuttle route has been established for the Village of Johnson City, any voter affected by the flood may call the Board of Elections at 778-2172 for shuttle service.
