Read the passage given below and answer the following:

Some people called Diane Ray a discourteous brat, but that was an understatement. She was completely self- centered and spoilt. That is why she was now alone on the beach and wearing an expensive wetsuit and swim fins. It had thrown a massive tantrum to get her parents to buy them. They had gone back to the beach house, to avoid the tantrum she had threatened to throw when they told her that it was too dangerous to go snorkelling alone. “Dangerous?” she had snorted. “You just don’t want me to have fun. I’m going and if you try to stop me, I’ll scream.”

“What are you doing?” a voice asked.

Diane jumped. She did not know that

the old man was there until he spoke.

“I beg your pardon?” she asked icily.

“What are you doing?” he repeated.

“What does it look like?” she answered rudely, putting on her face mask. “I’m going diving.”

“You shouldn’t do that,” the old man advised. “Rough water is no place for kids. If you go out there you’ll be sorry,” the old man called after her. She did not bother to reply and waded into the lapping water. She swam happily among them until it became harder to swim against the current. The fronds of seaweed slapped against her face, making it difficult to breathe. Panicking, she shot to the surface and began to scream. Then, just as it seemed as if she would slip beneath the surface, she heard a calm voice. “Hold on! I’m coming.” With relief, she saw the same old man rowing an ancient-looking boat towards her.

“Looks like I’ve arrived just in time,” he remarked, as he pulled her over the side of the boat. “I hope you’ve learned a lesson. You put us both in grave danger.”

Gratefully, Diane thanked him and ran towards the beach house. “I wonder if Mum would like me to help her prepare dinner tonight.” she thought. There would be no spoilt brat from now on.
