Delaware Union Standby Referee

  1. The Standby Referee will be paid at a rate of $X.XX per hour. If the Standby Referee covers a game for which an assigned referee fails to show, the referee will also receive the normal referee pay for that game. Weekend assignments will be made in blocks of time, probably four hours each.
  2. The Standby Referee will be a USSF certified referee and will be qualified to officiate as a center referee for any match that falls within their block of time. The Standby Referee must be no younger than 16 years of age.
  3. The duties of the Standby Referee are as follows.
  4. The Standby Referee shall take the place of an assigned referee who fails to show for their assignment.
  5. If all assigned referees show for their matches, the Standby Referee will remain at the soccer complex.
  6. When step 3.b applies, the Standby Referee may perform mentoring services for referees of their choice.
  7. When step 3.b applies, the Standby Referee will act as field administrator, conducting tasks which include, but are not limited to the following:
  8. Monitor conduct of the spectators.
  9. Monitor conduct of the coaches.
  10. Monitor conduct of the players.
  11. Adjudicate referee decisions when requested.
  12. The Standby Referee will arrive at the soccer complex no later than 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start of the first game and will leave the soccer complex no earlier than 15 minutes after the completion of the last game assigned to their block. However, the Standby Referee may be assigned to duty for other periods of time as determined by the Referee Assignor.
  13. If more than one match is in need of a referee, the Standby Referee will use the following priority list to determine which game to cover:

  15. U16 – U18 Center Referee
  16. U14 Center Referee
  17. U16 – U18 Assistant Referee
  18. U14 Assistant Referee
  19. U12 Center Referee
  20. U12 Assistant Referee
  21. U10 Center Referee (U10 matches may be played with a single Referee)
  22. U10 Assistant Referee
  23. U8 Center Referee
  24. All Delaware Union games have priority over non-Delaware Union games, or any other non-Delaware Union scheduled games.
  25. The policy for Delaware Union games are as follows:
  26. If the Center Referee is not at the field within 15 minutes of the official game time, you may but are not required to, assign the senior Assistant Referee to the Center Referee position. The second Assistant Referee will assume the position of AR1, if not already, and perform the responsibilities as Assistant Referee on the Coaches side of the field.
  27. Do Not move referees off Representative “Travel” games to support Recreational games.
