Delaware Estuary Fishery Ecosystem Model:Model Development Workshop II Announcement

Dates:August 23rd, 2005.

Venue:Hilton Wilmington/Christiana,Newark, DE

November 14, 2018

Dear Colleagues,

We cordially invite you to a workshop to assist in the development of an ecosystem model of the Delaware estuary scheduled for August 23rd, 2005. This is the second in a series of workshops to develop a working ecosystem model for the Delaware estuary. It is our intention to construct our model with the best possible information available. Subsequently, we willprovide the model to management agencies and academic scientists for use in policy exploration and research. Hence, your involvement in this project is important to us and we value your inputs.

The goals of our research are to describe and quantify production and mortality of individual species and trophic groups in the Delaware estuary ecosystem, and relate changes in various conservation measures (habitat restoration, fish ladders, etc) on production and mortality within the ecosystem. Building on data accumulated from historical monitoring programs and results from previous analytical studies, we have developed a Delaware Estuary Fishery Ecosystem Model (DEFEM) using the modeling software package Ecopath with Ecosim (EwE).

For more information please visit the project website at:

Workshop Goals:

Following input from the first workshop we have developed a prototype ecosystem based model for Delaware Bay. At this workshop we seek: (1) expert advice on the structure of the Delaware Bayfood web as represented in the model,(2) critical review of parameter estimates used in the model, and (3) evaluation of time series of landings and fishery independent abundances used to reconstruct the dynamics.

Travel Expenses:

Travel funds are available to cover travel expenses for workshop participants who are traveling from out of town and require overnight accommodations. Contact Tom Miller or Mike Frisk for more information and reimbursement instructions.

Meals will be provided.

Please let us know if you plan on attending and if you need a room. We hope you will join us.

Sincerely,

DEFEM Steering Committee:
