Section I: General Information

Position Title: Student-Centered Coach

Classification: Certified

FTE/Contracted Days/Salary: 7:45-3:30; 1.0 FTE; 5 additional days; Per Master Contract with Additional Days at a Per Diem Rate

Immediate Supervisor: Facilitator of Assessment and Instruction

Section II: Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Basic Function:

The Student-Centered Instructional Coach will work as colleagues with classroom teachers to support student achievement. The Coach will help teachers set specific targets for students that are rooted in the standards and curriculum and work collaboratively with the teacher to ensure the targets are met, measuring one’s own impact based on student learning.

Roles and Responsibilities:

·  Prepare and support teachers in assuming leadership roles that promote student learning.

·  Facilitate the intellectual and professional development of teachers.

·  Create positive relationships with teachers and administrators.

·  Communicate and demonstrate researched­based instructional practices that results in increased student performance.

·  Model, support, and give feedback on newly adopted strategies and skills.

·  Help in the facilitation of second order change within the district as per state educational reform initiatives including Characteristics of Effective Instruction.

·  Facilitate extended learning opportunities on specific instructional needs.

·  Identify ways administrators can support learning teams.

·  Help identify priorities at a district or building level.

·  Help identify district practices and leadership behaviors that do not promote the identified priorities.

·  Assist teacher teams in implementing a guaranteed and viable curriculum by prioritizing, unwrapping standards, creating learning targets, developing common assessments and pacing documents.

·  Provide input and assistance on the development of the District’s Professional Development Plan according to school needs.

·  Work with teachers and administrators to implement school-wide, systematic interventions (MTSS).

·  Provide professional development and consultation regarding the use of formative and summative assessments and universal screening and diagnostic assessment tools in order to differentiate and improve instructional practices.

·  Guide teachers and administrators to becoming self-reflective and continuous learners.

·  Work with the other Coaches to determine schedules and execution of MTSS testing, progress monitoring, interventions, and WIN Time/Viking Time.

·  Research and provide staff support that will improve teaching and learning – including: teaching strategies, assessment of skills, interpretation, and use of assessment results, etc.

·  Provide support and assistance to all classroom teachers in the full implementation of the district’s adopted programs through score analysis/interpretation of common assessments, MAP results, FAST scores, Iowa Assessments, and other assessment data.

·  Research and provide information and guidance regarding a range of effective and innovative practices through various activities such as: individual discussions (informal and formal), coaching sessions, demonstration lessons with pre- and post- discussion/analysis, study groups, staff meetings, and professional development programs.

·  Conduct demonstration lessons to ensure that all teachers have been trained to an advanced level of delivery and are using the instructional materials as designed.

·  Provide on-site staff development to ensure that teachers are knowledgeable about program components and understand the instructional design of how the program meets the standards (alignment).

·  Serve as a resource in identifying appropriate instructional strategies and interventions to improve student achievement for all students.

·  Assist teacher in preparation pacing for instruction.

·  Assist teachers in integrating technology into classrooms and share technology resources beneficial to instruction.

·  Assist in reviewing current textbook/curriculum and making recommendations for new programs.

·  Familiarize self with current curriculum and district resources (textbooks/programs).

·  Assist in implementation of curriculum in grades as assigned.

·  Assist in determining curricular resource updates and needs.

·  Participate in PLC team meetings as appropriate.

·  Assist in WIN/Viking Time as needed.

·  Attend meetings as appropriate.

·  Other specific duties as requested by supervisor.

Section III: Requirements and Characteristics

Basic Requirements: 1 year working within DCSD; 3 years of teaching experience

Licensure: BA/BS degree; Master’s degree in job related area is preferred.

Essential knowledge and specialized subject knowledge required to perform the essential functions of the job:

·  Knowledge of research data and best practices for increasing student achievement.

·  Knowledge of current research based intervention programs.

·  Leadership skills in the area of team facilitation practices and principles.

·  Demonstrates effective communication skills when working collaboratively and coaching others.

·  Ability to lead the development and implementation of Professional Learning. Communities and MTSS essential program components.

·  Ability to lead in the development of high quality formative and summative assessments.

·  Ability to train and support others in current effective coaching practices.

·  Ability to motivate adults to transform their practice.

·  Ability to facilitate, communicate orally and in writing, and engage in active listening.

·  Ability to problem solve, analyze issues, create plans of action, and reach solutions.

·  Ability to adapt in a rapidly changing work environment where change is driven by current research and applied data analysis.

·  Knowledge of data collection and recording methodologies.
