Dear Utah ASTA Orchestra Festival Conductors,

We are very excited with the response we have had for the 2010 ASTA Jr. High/Middle School Orchestra Festival. Sixteen orchestras are participating, representing eleven different schools, many traveling from some distance away. Trying to schedule everyone on one day has been a challenge. It was made possible only by increasing the number of clinicians. Dr. Sergio Bernal (USU), Dr. Andy Dabczynski (BYU) and Dr. Robert Frost and will rotate as clinicians and adjudicators. We feel very fortunate to have such expertise. Each of these fine music educators is nationally recognized as a great teacher, conductor, composer, arranger and clinician, to name just a few of their accomplishments. Both students and conductors are going enjoy learning from them.

Performances will begin at 7:55 a.m. and end at 5:05 p.m. Each school will have a 25 minute warm-up period (Tippetts Gallery), 10 minutes to move onto the stage of the MorganTheater, then 30 minutes of playing/clinician stage time. It is critical that we keep to the schedule. Please allow sufficient time to arrive well before your warm up time, unload and move the group into the Chase Fine Arts building where a guide will greet you, give directions for rest rooms then escort you either to the Tippetts Gallery for warm-up or to the Morgan Theater where you can observe other orchestras in performance (depending upon your arrival time.)

We hope that each group will allow time to observe performance(s) by other orchestras; an important part of the festival learning experience.

Lunch options: Many groups enjoy having lunch in the USU Taggart Student Union “Hub” food court, just a few minutes’ walk directly west of the Chase Fine Arts building. N.E. of the Chase complex is the Food Science building, home of the famous “Aggie Ice Cream” where great “build it yourself” custom sandwiches are also available. Logan has the usual fare of fast food chains as well as many restaurants in the downtown area.

Bus Instructions: From Logan’s Main Street turn east on 4th North (Highway 89) and go up the hill past the Chase Fine Arts Center (1200 East.) Take the next left which faces the Beaver Mountain Ski outlet. Turn left again going west on 700 North. Turn left at the traffic light on 1200 E. Unload students at the long sidewalk on the east side of the Chase Fine Arts building.

Buses can be parked (no charge) in the north-west corner of the Romney Stadium parking lot (about 800 E and 1100 North.)

If further information is needed; call either of these cell numbers: 435 881-1896 or 435 881-1825.

Feel free to contact me with any questions. We look forward to hearing your groups perform.
