Dear Track and Field Parents and Athletes:
Welcome to the 2016 season of Hart Track & Field. This syllabus will provide you with information as to what we expect out of each of our athletes.
Information about the team, including the season schedule, spirit pack, fundraisers, etc. can be found by following us on Facebook at Hart Track, on Twitter, @HartTrack, and on the school web site under spring sports.
In an effort to ensure that finances are not a barrier to participation in Hart Track and Field, we do not require a mandatory registration fee. We do, however, have significant expenses related to transportation, meet registration fees, meet management, equipment, etc. To reduce the need for time consuming fundraising we have set up a donation website at If each family donated just $100 we would quickly achieve our goal (and possible exceed it if your Company makes a matching donation!) Please consider giving today.
Please note the following:
- Paperwork must be returned in a timely manner; this includes emergency cards and the insurance/release/physical form. (No athlete may train or compete without either of these forms) All paperwork must be filled out in its entirety and turned into the Head Coach or your event Coach prior to participation on the team. If you participated in a fall or winter sport, you DO NOT have to get another physical or fill out that form.
- This is a class for a grade! Because Track & Field receives P.E. credit, athletes will abide by the PE department standards as well. Non-dresses (forgot clothes or shoes and doesn’t practice) or unexcused absences will lower an athlete’s grade and limit their opportunity to compete.
- If an athlete is absent for more than 3 days without an excuse it is cause for termination from the team.
- If the athlete incurs an injury/illness, anything beyond 3 days requires a doctor's note.
- Practice is from 2 p.m. to at least 4 p.m. everyday, unless otherwise stated by a Head Coach or Event Coach. NO LEAVING EARLY!
- Participation on the track and field team is a privilege. Once an athlete is entered in an invitational and their entry fee paid, he/she will be expected to compete in that meet. If the athlete fails to compete for any reason other than a verified injury or illness, they will be required to reimburse the team for their portion of the entry fees.
- All members of the team will attend the team practices conducted by the members of the Hart coaching staff. Practicing with outside, private coaches or doing workouts prescribed by same will not be allowed.
Code of Ethics - Athletes
Athletics is an integral part of the school’s total educational program. All school activities, curricular and extra-curricular, in the classroom and on the playing field, must be congruent with the school’s stated goals and objectives established for the intellectual, physical, social and moral development of its students. It is within this context that the following Code of Ethics is presented.
As an athlete, I understand that it is my responsibility to:

We recognize that under CIF Bylaw 202, there could be penalties for false or fraudulent information.
We also understand that the Hart High School policy regarding the use of illegal drugs will be enforced for any violations of these rules.
ACADEMICS AND ELIGIBILTY
Students must meet requirements in order to participate in practices and/or meets. These requirements are set down by the governing boards of the CIF-SS and of Wm. S. Hart High School. Students must meet all criteria for eligibility, including physical, academic, school and practice attendance, and conduct both on and off campus. To be academically eligible for athletics a student must maintain at least a 2.00 GPA. Eligibility is based on grades achieved at the end of each quarter. A student with a GPA below 2.00 at the end of the relevant grading period, i.e. fall semester, becomes ineligible until the end of the next quarter. Anyone who is ineligible at the end of the fall semester may be dropped from the team before the start of the spring semester. Students who are ineligible may not leave campus early to attend athletic events. Athletes are expected to be present at all classes, practices, conditioning sessions, team meetings, and competitions throughout the season. Be on time and be prepared to practice or compete.
ATHLETE CONDUCT AND EXPECTATIONS
An athlete’s conduct is expected to be above reproach on and off campus. Any conduct not worthy of the mission of Hart High School will not be tolerated and may result in immediate dismissal from the team and possibly from school. We believe that athletes who do well off the field will be equally if not more successful on the field. The personal discipline and ethics of each Hart athlete should reflect the dedicated pursuit of excellence. Each relationship – with teammates, coaches, parents, fans, or officials – should reflect a positive and productive attitude. Respect and self-control must prevail in the home and classroom and on the field of play even through the most intense game situations. Hart track athletes are expected to take pride in their appearance as individuals and as team members. Athletes are highly visible representatives of Hart High School. Be accountable to your teammates, coaches, parents and school. Players are expected to inform family and friends that practice and meet facilities are a place of concentration and hard work. Socializing and visiting with friends and family is not to occur at practice.
