Dear Third Graders and Families,
Congratulations on completing second grade and moving on to third grade! We are looking forward to working with you and having a fun and successful year! You have learned so much in second grade and we want to make sure you hang on to those skills so that you are ready to learn more in September. We understand that summer vacation is a time to relax and have fun, but below is a list of suggested activities for you to focus on when you have some free time. It is important to avoid the summer slide! It will make your transition into third grade much easier!
· Continue to read EVERYDAY for 15 minutes. Don’t forget to log your minutes on the Scholastic website.
· Study your addition and subtraction facts (the Dollar Tree has flashcards!)
· Practice 2 digit addition and subtraction problems.
· Practice skip counting by 2s, 3s, 4s, etc. to prepare for multiplication.
· Reflect on your summer activities and write about them in a writer’s notebook.
· Practice math on these websites:
· Coolmath4kids.com

There are also a few school supplies that all third grade students need. Please have these ready for the first week of school. Keep in mind that students do not have desks and must fit all their belongings in a seat sack on their chair. Please stick to the supply list and limit your child to one pencil box.
· Plenty of pencils
· 1 pack of colored pencils
· A few colored pens
· 2 one subject notebook
· Pack of dry erase markers
· Glue sticks
· 1 pair of scissors
· 1 red folder, 1 green folder, 1 blue folder, 1 purple folder, 1 yellow folder
The following are items that are always needed in the classroom. Any donations throughout the year would be extremely helpful!
· Hand sanitizer
· Tissues
· Hand soap
· Cleaning wipes

Students and families, have a wonderful summer and we can’t wait to see you in September! Remember to read!
