National Society of Black Engineers

Southern Maryland Professionals

November 12, 2015

Dear Pre-College Student,

The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)-Southern Maryland Professionals is pleased to announce our annual STEM’s Future Leaders Scholarship to be awarded prior to Fall 2016 school semester. The NSBE mission is “to increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community.” In keeping with the mission, the NSBE-Southern Maryland Professionals identified a need to support the community by establishing this scholarship for the Southern Maryland Counties’ public and private high school graduating seniors attending a two-year or four-year college/university in Fall 2016. This scholarship is valued at a minimum of $500 not to exceed $1,000 per student unless otherwise stated.

The scholarship is open to students who have been accepted to and will be attending a two-year or four-year college/university majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics in Fall 2016. Applicants will be screened using an official transcript, at least two (2) letters of recommendation from non-family members, and an essay that will address the topic: “What value do you see a STEM education contributing to your life and community currently, and in the future?” Our scholarship will examine students who may have financial constraints.

This is a non-recurring scholarship.

Candidates can also apply at www.nsbesomd.org/STEMsFutureLeaders.

Respectfully,

Travis Lynch, Scholarship Chair
