29th January 2015

Dear Parents of Children in 5JM,

TRIP TO PORTSMOUTH HISTORIC DOCKYARD

As you know, the children in Year 5 will be visiting the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard in February and further details are set out below. The itinerary is slightly different for each class, so this letter contains details relevant to your child’s class only.

The trip for 5JM will take place on Friday 27th February 2015. We will be visiting the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard where the children will take part in some Tudor maths workshops as well as visiting the newly opened Mary Rose Museum. The coach will leave school at 9.00am so please ensure that your child is in school promptly on this day. We would be grateful if you could ensure that your child has the necessary travel sickness medication, if required. The children should come dressed in normal school uniform. They will need to bring a packed lunch for the day. Please ensure that this is in a plastic bag so that we can dispose of it after eating. No glass bottles or fizzy drinks please. If your child usually has a hot meal, please ensure that this is cancelled direct through Chartwells. Please note that we will return to school at 3.30pm.

The cost of this trip will be £14.40, which covers entry fees, workshops, coach travel and insurances. There is a shop at the museum so your child may take a maximum of £5.00 pocket money with them, in a named purse/wallet.

As you know, we now offer the facility to pay for trips online through Parentmail 2. If you have registered with Parentmail 2, you should log in to your account, select “Payments” from the menu on the left hand side of the screen and follow the online instructions. As this trip will run slightly over the normal school hours, we do need permission for your child to attend, so you should also click on the consent button.

If you would prefer to pay for the trip and give your permission in person, then please return the permission slip and return it to the School Office with your payment. We would prefer payment by cheque, which should be made payable to “Bishop Tufnell Junior School”. Although this is a voluntary contribution, if we do not receive enough contributions to cover the cost of the trip, we will be unable to fund similar events in the future. The school does not make any profit from school visits and we quite often do not recover the full cost from parents. If you have any difficulty in paying, please contact the School Office, in confidence, who will be happy to discuss alternative payment arrangements. Please also let the School Office know if there have been any changes to your child’s medical requirements.

We may need some extra helpers on this trip so if you feel that you would like to accompany us and have a current DBS (formerly known as CRB) check, please let us know.

Many thanks for your support.

Yours sincerely

THE YEAR 5 TEAM
