OBJECTIVES:

·  To provide an extensive array of activities with an abundance of opportunities for every student to be successful.

·  To create a physical education program where students are totally accountable for their own actions.

·  To develop good social behavior with the other students.

·  To allow students to experience competitive and non-competitive activities as well as team and individual activities.

·  To enhance skill, interest, and an appreciation for the need of life-long learning, activity, and recreation.

·  To provide frequent opportunity for students to evaluate their own personal fitness as related to national expectations.

·  To promote cognitive knowledge of rules, history, and strategy through both written evaluations and application of physical skills.

DRESS REQUIREMENT:

·  All students are expected to dress out in the PE uniform for sports activities daily. This will consist of shorts and shirt in the colors of gray, red or burgundy/maroon. ONLY THESE COLORS WILL BE WORN FOR PE DRESS OUT.

·  Failure to dress for activity will prevent the student from taking part in the planned activity and the student will lose 5 points off their grade for not dressing out and lack of participation.

·  The P. E. clothing MUST be different from the clothing worn to school.

·  SHIRTS MUST BE A CREW NECK (high neck) TYPE OF T-SHIRT. NO V-NECK, LOW CUT OR TIGHT FITTING SHIRTS WILL BE ALLOWED.

·  No school clothes, jackets, dressy sweaters, leotards/leggings, or cheerleading shorts will be allowed. Jackets may NOT be worn for indoor activities; sweatshirts are fine.

·  Clothes should be hemmed, have no inappropriate words/pictures, provide proper coverage, and be worn appropriately.

·  Non-marking ATHLETIC shoes are required. NO hiking boots, slip on shoes, or flip-flops. (They must be tied appropriately, no loose/non tied shoes allowed)

·  All jewelry (including body piercing) should be removed before entering activity. 2 pts will be taken off if jewelry is worn as well as they will need to remove said items. NEITHER DOUGLAS COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM NOR FACTORY SHOALS MIDDLE SCHOOL WILL BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY INJURY THAT OCCURS BECAUSE OF THESE OBJECTS.

·  No gum, candy or food of any kind is allowed in the locker rooms or gym at anytime ( a demerit will be given for violation of this rule.)

LOCKERS:

·  7th and 8th grade students may purchase a P.E. locker at a cost of $2.00 for the small locker and $5.00 for the large locker. It is a “first come, first serve” basis as there are not enough lockers for every student.

·  As is stated in the Douglas County Student Agendas, the faculty is not responsible for any clothes and valuables (money, any type of technology items and jewelry, etc.) that are lost or stolen.

ILLNESS:

·  A parent note will excuse the student from participating from P.E. activities for 2 consecutive days. (The student will still be required to dress out) A doctor’s note will be required for anything lasting over that time period.

GRADING CRITERIA WILL CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING:

·  Daily dress out – 15%

·  Daily participation – 25%

·  Fitness/running program – 35%

·  Skills tests (for sports units) and weekly agenda checks – 25% (6th graders will include a 5% SLO taken from this category)

NO PHONES, HEADPHONES OR TECHNOLOGY WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE GYM OR LOCKER ROOM AT ANY TIME. VIOLATION OF THIS RULE WILL RESULT IN IMMEDIATE CONFISCATION OF SAID ITEM AS WELL AS A DEMERIT.
