Dear Overbrook Parents and Students entering Grades 6-8,

We have had a great year and pray you have as well. We want to begin next year on the right foot. In order to do so, the Overbrook Math Department requires that students complete math review work during the summer months. This review is designed to keep your student fresh on math skills learned this year. All work is due the first day of school, August 16, 2017.

What is required?

  • Read over Lessons 1-10 and Investigation 1 in the Saxon math text bookgiven out at school.
  • Complete the problems entitled Practice Set for each lesson. These problems will give students practice on the topic being reviewed in a lesson in a spiral notebook or composition notebook.
  • Complete EVEN numbered problems in the lesson entitled Written Practice. These will offer review over all of the concepts being reviewed in summer math. (Number your paper.)
  • Completeall of the problems associated with Investigation 1.
  • Write the Lesson Number at the beginning of each Homework section.
  • Show as much work as you can. You will earn four homework grades. Two grades will reflect your effort on Lessons 1-5 and the other two homework grades will reflect your effort on Lessons 6-10 and Investigation 1.
  • Check your own work with a colored pen or pencil. Answers to the Practice Set and problems from each lesson will be placed on the portal. Do your best to correct the ones you missed.
  • Bring the Summer Homework Notebook to school on the first day so that your teacher can review your work.
  • After a short review the first days of school, students should be prepared to take a test on lessons 1-10. This test may take place during the first week of school.
  • If you would like to do more practice, please feel free to complete the ODD numbered problems as well, but please do not move ahead in the book.

Parents please:

  • Sign the Summer Homework notebook to certify that the student worked independently to complete the summer homework, checked it, and gave the problems needing correction a good effort. It is great if you are able to help your child when they get stuck on a concept, but the students are expected to completethis work on their own.

Thank you for your help in keeping the students on top of summer learning. If you have any questions regarding summer math review work, please contact your child’s current teacher.

In Christ,

Amy Emerson, David Donlon, Diane Meier, and Jacquie Grytza
