Dear Mr. Michael Davis,

I agree with the idea of doing the act of searching student’s backpacks and lockers. There are many reasons why they should search the student’s belongings. The reasons are the following illegal drugs maybe stored, weapons may be stored, and students might have stolen goods stored in their belongings. Therefore, the searches should be granted. This will decrease some of the wrong doings of the students. How easier would your job be with this addition to the school?

The searches should be granted because of dangerous drug uses. Students can hide illegal drugs in their backpacks and lockers. For instance, they can hide things such as crystal meth. Crystal meth is a drug that makes things go in a slow motion. A lot of times you get dizzy and confused when you use it. Another a drug that students could be hiding is cigarettes. Now in this world you have a lot of students who smoke cigarettes. Cigarettes can lead to a serious illness known as lung cancer. Lastly, the students may have another illegal substance known as alcohol. An alcohol is a liquid substance that disturbs your actions. Would you want your child to intake these substances?

Another equally important reason why searches should be granted is because the selling of illegal products. Students might have stolen goods that they try to sell to other students. Such as things like CDs and DVDs. A lot of students get there “hustle” or “money” by selling these things. CDs/DVDs might contain restricted languages and actions. They also might have drugs that are both illegal and dangerous. The students might also sell alcohol. The alcohol could be very dangerous and life threatening. When you are a certain age, you may have alcohol intake. But right now at the age our middle school students are, we are not allowed this privilege.

In my opinion, the most important reason why searches should be given is because of weapon storage. Students may store things such as guns. Guns are used by students to handle there “problems.” Although guns do not solve problems, students try to use them. Due to society influence, students undergo peer pressure because of what is believed and what is presented before them. Would you want your child to be in danger? I do not think so.

To emphasize my point, student searches would eliminate the drug usage by students, the selling of illegal products, and the possession of weapons. Student searches would be a great way to decrease the rates of fights. Searches would also be a great way to prevent incidents from happening. I strongly agree with the searching of lockers and backpacks. I am sure that after you have read this essay, you will agree with me to the fullest extinct.

Sincerely,

Maya C. Hoyt
