Dear Members & Friends of Canoa Ranch Golf Club and Torres Blancas Golf Club,

Last month in my letter I mentioned we were going to host a “Thank You” luncheon for the golf course maintenance staff in October. I went on to say if you wanted to donate anything, the staff would appreciate the gesture. The overwhelming outpouring of generosity was truly humbling. It appeared almost every Member contributed in some form or fashion. Most donated money to cover the cost, some actually made food and brought it over on the day of the barbeque and everyone went out of their way to thank the hardworking staff for the great job they did in this year’s overseeding. On behalf of both golf course maintenance staffs, THANK YOU for your recognition and support of us.

It is wonderful to watch how an event comes together when everyone is focused on the same goal. The ladies Chili Pepper annual invitational, held at Torres Blancas this year was such an event. The planning and execution was flawless, with congratulations going to Jana Oxenford and her committee. All of their hard work for months leading up to the event made our job that much easier. Dale and his golf team, Kim and Alex and the entire F&B team and Darril, Jason and the maintenance team all worked together to make this a very memorable event.

Our Food & Beverage team experienced a little turnover in October. We lost Dean, but we gained Pat Mattson. I am very excited to have Pat join our team, and I think I speak for everyone when I say “Welcome”, we are glad you are here!

GOLF COURSE UPDATE

The overseeding of the courses appears to have taken much better this year. The only thing different from last year is the weather. If you remember, this time last year we were experiencing record cold temps. No amount of knowledge and skill can make grass grow on frozen ground. So, this year, although warm, is much preferred and it shows in the growth of the Rye seed.

The greens at Canoa Ranch are healing nicely from the heat and humidity of the summer. Within the next few weeks they will be as smooth and quick as the greens at Torres Blancas.

We are still experiencing irrigation breakdowns at Torres Blancas and are dealing with them while developing a long-term plan to mitigate the challenges. Hats off to Darril and Jason for staying on top of a frustrating issue.

On Saturday, November 12th and Sunday, November 13th we will be hosting our annual “Welcome Back” member event at Canoa Ranch. Saturday Nov. 12th will be filled with The John Jacobs Golf Schools & Academies Instructors holding complimentary golf clinics. They will cover everything from full swing to short game and putting. On Sunday, Nov. 13th we will have our member-member/member-guest golf event, followed by a hosted lunch.

Please check your emails for this invite and instructions on how to sign up for the complimentary golf clinics.

If we don’t have your current email address, please notify anyone at either golf shop so we can update your records.

On behalf of the staff of Canoa Ranch Golf Club and Torres Blancas Golf Club, we thank you for your continued support.

Respectfully,

Rick Williams, GM
