Dear Lynch’s English Student:

The first day of school (or a new semester!) is always a little nerve-wracking. You have a new schedule to follow, new classrooms to find, new teachers and classmates to meet, new friendships to establish – the list goes on and on. In order to help put some of your back-to-school jitters at ease, I am writing this letter to introduce myself to you and to tell you how happy I am that I can now call you one of my students! I am excited about the time we will spend together, the things we will learn, and the memories we will share. I look forward to getting to know each of you individually, and I hope to help you learn and grow more than you ever thought possible during our 90 days together.

This is my second year teaching at Dunwoody High School, and my sixth year teaching in general. I am from Winter Park, Florida – right outside of Orlando – and I have lived in Atlanta for just over a year. I got married on March 27, 2004 and moved away from Florida a few months later when my husband decided to attend law school at Vanderbilt University. I enjoy Georgia, but I definitely miss my family and being away from Florida’s sunny beaches.

I went to Florida State University (go Seminoles!!!) with a desire to study music. I love singing and playing the piano, and listening to all types of music. I eventually decided not to pursue a music degree, and determined I wanted to teach shortly after graduating with a degree in English. A few years ago, I returned to school (go Commodores!) and earned a master’s degree in Education. Even now, I am excited about all of the things I learned that will help make me a better teacher. I love interacting with people, and I love language and literature – maybe that explains how I ended up as an English teacher!

After hearing a little bit about me, I am curious to know some things about you. Maybe you want to tell me about things you are interested in, or about hobbies you have. Maybe you want to tell me about your family, or about something interesting you did this summer. Perhaps you want me to know about your hopes and dreams – your goals for the future. Whatever it is, I look forward to learning more about the things that make you the person you are, and I am anxious to read the letter you write me.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Lynch
