Dear LG Soldier,
Football Season is here! What an exciting time of year to be one of the chosen few: An LG Soldier! I am so pleased with the offseason we had, and the EDGE is going great. We have a group of seniors that I couldn’t be more excited about leading the 2017 mission. With them leading the way coupled with our biggest junior class we’ve ever had, and two talented classes below them, the expectations are as high as ever. Remember our motto: Squared Away! Make sure you are doing your part every day to make our mission a success. LEPS TAKE STATE!
Your coaches and I will start preparation for the upcoming season beginningJuly 26th. Our Summer Edge program ends on Thursday, July 27th, but the weight room will be open the last week before two-a-days, as the coaches are at the field house working. The only day it will be closed is Monday, July 31st. We will be out of town as a staff.
Two-A-Days Practice Schedule:
Monday – Friday (8/7 – 8/11): -Practice: 8:00am – 11:30am (Freshmen, JV, & Varsity)
-Walk-Thru/Weights: 4:00pm – 6:00pm (JV, & Varsity Only)
We will start our two-a-day practices on Monday, August 7th with a team meeting at 7:00am in the field house. Bring your practice cleats for practice. Freshmen will be done after the first practice, no afternoon walk-thru for you. This will be the schedule for the week of Monday, August 7th – Friday, August 11th. The Popsicle Bowl will be held on Saturday, August 12that 9:00am. The following week’s schedule is still to be ironed outdue to teacher in-service. If you have questions, please call the field house at 968-7018.
You cannot practice on August 7thwithout having a cleared physical packet on file with Coach Williamson. Therefore, per the UIL 4 & 6 rule, you will miss the first scrimmage vs. El Campo if you miss even 1 practice. It is vital you take care of business and get the entire physical packet filled out and turned in ASAP.
Only you can prepare yourself for two-a-days. You need to remain lifting and running fourdays a week. On the first day of two-a-days we will conduct a fitness test which is comprised of 16 over and backs (1/2 Gasser). Linemanwill have to make it in 22 seconds, and skill players will have to make it in 17 seconds. You will do this test with your position coach everyday until you complete it.
We will have a Parent Meeting in the H.S. Cafeteria on Thursday, August 3rd at 6:00 pm for allFootball Parents. You will get to meet our coaches and their families, and we will go over expectations for our athletes.
FRESHMEN REMINDER: We will have a Freshmen Football Camp the week prior to two-a-days. The dates of the camp are Wednesday, August 2nd – Friday, August 4thfrom 8:00am – 11:00am. We will treat this camp like your first three practices, so it is vital you are present! This is a great way to kick start your high school career, and can’t wait to see you there.
