Dear Debate Coach,

You and your team are cordially invited to attend the Goddard Lion Den Novice Night Debate Tournament. The tournament will take place at Goddard High School on Tuesday, November 14th.

Thetournament will consist of 3 rounds. We will limit the entries to 4 teams per school. Entry fees are $5 per team and must be received before the students can debate. Extras may be allowed, request extras on the enclosed entry form. The first two rounds will be preset. The final round will be delayed power-matched. The top 8 teams will receive medals. Awards will be picked up with judge sheets in tabroom.

*Each 2 entries must provide 1 judge; see item 5 on the list below for judging requirements.

For dinner, there are now several nearby fast food locations (Pizza Hut delivers). We would strongly encourage coaches/sponsors to make arrangements during the first round so that the tournament will stay on schedule! We will be happy to provide you with assistance. Note: we will NOT be providing a meal in our cafeteria this year!

Other specifics:

1. Topic- “Resolved: The USFG should substantially increase funding and/or regulation of Elementary and/or Secondary Education in the United States.

2. Format: Cross-Examination with 8-3-5 time limits. 5 minutes prep will be allowed per team per round.

3. Scouting: No scouting.

4. Forfeits: Tab staff and tournament director will make decisions regarding forfeits. Any team more than 10 minutes late to a round will forfeit the round.

5. Judging: Bring someone qualified under KSHSAA to judge novice rounds (only 3rd or 4th year debaters or adults/grads who have experience judging novice tournaments)
