Dear Families,

The clothing studying is off to a nice start. The children are discussing “What do we know about clothes?” and “What do we want to find out?” Thank you for sharing special articles of clothing! This week Miya shared her favorite bathing suit, Dino shared his Kurta, which is traditional Indian pajamas. Landon brought in a traditional formalwear for boys worn in place of a suit and tie. It is worn over a shirt and tucked out. It has many embroidered designs and made of jusi fabric (fabric made of bananas leaves) and Owen shared his formal blazer.

The children explored the new clothes items in dramatic play. They tried on some of the new articles of clothing taking on different roles. Dramatic play offers many opportunities for children to imitiate people in their communtiy. And too expand their expressive language. Zoe pretends to be an office worker.

During a weekly read aloud, Llama, Llama red pajamas we talked about how baby llama feels when his mother didn’t come right away. I asked them to recall a time when they’ve felt nervous at night time and who helps them feel safe. Here are their sweet responses:

Leah: “My brother acted silly to help.”

Gerico: “My brother brought me a teddy bear.”

Damain: “Armani brought me my rhino to help me sleep.”

Tanay: “My sister gave me my panda bear.”

Landon: “Sleeping with my mom helped me.”

Darren: “Finding my green car.”

Owen: “My teddy bear.”

Kayla: “My doll.”

Miya: “My mom gives me my dog.”

Zoe: “Sleeping with my mom.”

Dino: “Reading a book with mommy.”

Jordyn: “My heart teddy bear.”

Adbul: “My daddy.”

One of our small group activities had each group create two categories of shoes the children were wearing that day. Each group came up with shoes that have velcro and shoes that have laces. While playing the sorting game, they noticed that some friends had neither velcro or laces. They came up with a third category of shoes that slip on. We closed the activity on the rug to sort our shoes together, creating a shoe graph. Our results showed that we had more shoes with Velcro!

Reminders: Next week’s snack family is Miya’s family.

WOW Opportunities: We are looking for a dad to visit or other male family member next Wednesday to share some of their shirts and bring in a picture of them as a baby. We are also looking for a family member with a baby to talk about the baby’s clothing on Thursday. Please email me if you can make it.

Have a blessed weekend, Ms. Debbie and Ms. Diane
