The key task of the Outreach and Engagement Co-ordinatoris to continue to develop relationships between USPG and the Anglican Churches of Britain and Ireland. This includes both engagement with the structures of the church – General Synod, dioceses, deaneries, parishes – and outreach into the church’s wider community, particularly through our engagement with Christian festivals, such as Greenbelt.

The post holder will share the mission and values of USPG and be able to interact with external partners from a personally owned faith perspective. The support that USPG seeks is through engagement, volunteering, participation in awareness raising and advocacy work, prayer, and financial giving.

The successful applicant will be a practising Christian with the ability to relate to a wide range of people. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, experience of public speaking, organising and exhibiting at events, and have worked in an outreach, communications or fundraising role within the not-for-profit sector.

The postholder must be in full sympathy with the Christian values and principles on which USPG is built. It is an occupational requirement for the post holder to be a practising Christian (Equality Act 2010)

Job Purpose:

To develop relationships between USPG and the Anglican Churches of Britain and Ireland. This includes both engagement with the structures of the church: General Synod, dioceses, deaneries, parishes; and outreach into the Church’s wider community, particularly through our engagement with festivals. The post holder will share the mission and values of USPG and be able to interact with external partners from a personally owned faith perspective. The post holder will be part of the Mission Engagement Team, and will work closely with the Global Relations team in order to ensure that the priorities of our global partners are strategically transformed into practical advocacy and activism initiatives.

The Mission Engagement team works closely with the Fundraising and Communications team and the Outreach and Engagement Manager will work closely with colleagues within the team to ensure that there is full collaboration in the development of strong relationships and patterns of support for the organisation.

Specific responsibilities:

  • To lead on our engagement with individuals both within, and on the fringes of, the church, through participation in popular Christian festivals and events, such as Greenbelt.
  • To support our relationships with the Provincial, Diocesan, Deanery and Parish structures of the Anglican Church in Britain and Ireland through co-ordinating events at synods, mission fairs and other events, in order to raise awareness of, and to foster and develop positive working relationships with USPG.
  • To engage with international issues of importance to USPG global partners and promote participation in advocacy and engagement opportunities for them with the Anglican churches of Britain and Ireland.
  • To engage with higher education chaplaincies in order to inspire students to connect, through USPG, with the mission of the global church.
  • To work with colleagues to produces resources which will be used by staff, volunteers and supporters in promoting the work of USPG.
  • To undertake public speaking engagements in support of all areas of engagement.
  • To use social media to promote a wide, popular, engagement with USPG in liaison with colleagues.
  • To record information about all contacts and your own engagement with them on the organisational database in a timely manner
  • To undertake other duties as agreed with the line-manager, particularly those arising from the implementation of the Mission Engagement strategy.

Person Specification

Experience and Background
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent

  • Significant experience of public speaking and presenting to groups

  • Experience of organising or exhibiting at events

  • Experience of working in a outreach, communications or fundraising role within the not for profit sector, or in another discipline where you have gained similar transferable skills

  • Experience of working with volunteers

Skills and Abilities
  • Articulate and fluent in English, with excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to relate to a wide range of people with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to produce written resources for a church audience

  • Confident and able to make ‘cold’ approaches to individuals within the church and other organisations

  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team

  • Self-motivated and able to manage own workload and time

  • IT skills proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

  • Ability to use social media creatively, to gain popular following and engagement

  • Database skills including data inputting, querying and reporting

General
  • A practicing Christian comfortable with speaking in church

  • An understanding of and commitment to the theology and practice of the Anglican Church and a working knowledge of its structures

Outline Terms of Employment

Outreach and Engagement Co-ordinator
The following information is provided as a guideline for candidates and is not contractual:
  1. The post is based at our headquarters in Harling House, 47-51 Great Suffolk Street, London, SE1 0BS.
  1. The post is graded as 4 in our grading structure, where 0 is highest and 5 is lowest. The commencing annual salary will be £29,461 pa (pro rata)inclusive of London Allowance.
  1. The contract is a part time, 28 hours per week. This is a maternity cover role required for 9 months from February to October 2017.
  1. There is a one month probationary period (with the option to extend to two months) during which the appointment may be terminated by two week’s notice on either side. Following completion of the probationary period notice on either side is extended to one month.
  1. Normal office hours are 9.00 am to 5.00pm with one hour for lunch. A system of flexitime is in operation. However there is a need to work occasional evenings and weekends as the need arises, for which Time Off in Lieu will be given. No overtime is payable.
  1. Attendance at residential meetings will be required and there will be travel within Britain and Ireland.
  1. Annual leave entitlement will be 15.5 days for 9 monthsinclusive of Bank Holidays.
  1. Membership of a workplace pension scheme is available upon completion of satisfactory probation period, with a minimum employee contribution of 3% of salary; the employer will contribute 8%.
