Principal’s Post: March 7, 2018

Dear CKRS Families and Friends,

Dare we think that spring is just around the corner? With rain, sleet and snow predicted in the next two days, one can only hope and pray that this is the last hurrah of wintry weather. We are doing our part to nudge the change of season process along, and started taking down all the snowflakes and hearts and replacing them with shamrocks and daffodil! So let’s hope and pray March will be true to coming in as lion and leaving as a lamb. I am one who never underestimates the power of positive thinking especially partnered with prayer. This was so evident this week when I was the recipient of so many good gracious prayers for my quick recovery from a nasty fall that resulted in a head injury and some significant bruising of my face. All is well and will only get better with a little more healing time. Thank you all for your prayers, concerns and well wishes. They worked!

As most of you are aware, this week the children from 3rd to 7th grade inclusive are going through our annual standard academic assessment, the IOWA test. Both the teachers and students have been working diligently throughout the school year to ensure mastery of all the necessary benchmark skills at each grade level. I am sure their good efforts will show; even shine, when the test results come back later this spring. .

Just as the children need to be regularly assessed by a set standard of performance, so do we, as an educational institution. I am currently evaluating programs and progress, plant and personnel for the next school year. Much of this planning and preparing is based on projected enrollment so please be sure to re-register if you have not done so already. I can only budget for those on the books and it would be unfortunate for us as a school to not be able to continue on a path of improvement and innovation due to a false number that does not reflect your intent to return to CKRS. Thanks in advance for your cooperation in this matter.

Next Friday night, March 16th, is our annual King’s Ball Fete. If plans changed or your good intentions to buy a ticket got lost in your hurried days, tickets are still available to “A Lucky Knight” at the Tavistock Country Club. Come out for a wee bit of fun and food and try your luck at the games of chance, gambling tables and Basket raffles. All the money raised goes right back to your children’s educational experience here at CKRS. Many thanks to all who have already done so much to make this evening a cheery night of merriment for all who attend.

With over twenty days into our Lenten journey, our school community is surefooted on a path paved with good works and prayers as we move closer to Holy Week. Last Friday, the Middle School attended a very special and prayerful Lenten experience of The Cross and the Light, a modern day passion play depicting Jesus’ final days on this earth. It was a beautiful and inspirational performance that I am sure the children not only enjoyed but were enlightened by it. This week, some of the children will be graced with the opportunity to participate in the sacrament of Penance while others more fully explore the Stations of the Cross. We will be launching our Coin Crusade for Children in Need next week. There is special grace and gratitude experienced when our children recognize and respond to the basic needs of another child of Christ the King as a brother and sister in our Faith family. Talk to your children about their Lenten journey and offer them support as they search for understanding of the Paschal Mystery and begin to grasp a deeper meaning and appreciation of Easter that goes beyond jellybeans and egg hunts. As always thank you for being their first and best teachers of faith and partnering with us in the academic and as well as religious education of your child.

In the King’s service,

Mrs. Hartman
