Fall 2014
Dear CANSkate Parents:
Welcome to Skate Brandon’s CANSkate program! All sessions will be held in the Optimist Arena this year. We understand things may look a little confusing on the first and second nights as we will be grouping the skaters, this will improve. Regrouping may continue on a regular basis as our skaters’ progress.
CANSkate is Skate Canada’s flagship learn-to-skate program for beginners of all ages that teach fundamental movements such as Balance, Control & Agility. The program is set up in 6 stages. The CANSkate program emphasizes fun and continuous movement and is taught in a group lesson format. CANSkate is taught by Skate Canada Professional Coaches who are assisted by trained Program Assistants. Awards and incentives are used to motivate skaters to achieve and develop their skills as well as to keep interest high!! CANSkate is a feeder program to all other Skate Canada programs such as CANPower and STARSkate.
Please note the following schedule and the nights there is No Skating or a Time Change. Also we are planning some theme days to have some fun with the children on the ice, so mark your calendars and start preparing your costumes!!
Please take note of the following changes to session dates:
- October 2nd - First Day for Thursday Skaters
- October 7th– First Day for Tuesday Skaters
- October 28th30th– Halloween (wear your Halloween costume)
- November 11th& 13th– Hockey Night at CANSkate – wear your favorite team’s jersey
- November 25th& 27th– Beach Day – be sure to still dress warm!
- December 9th11th– Last Day
Our head CANSkate coach this session is Karen Wotton. She will be available before or after any session to answer any questions you may have about your child’s program or the program itself. During the session ice time we would like her to focus her attention on the children in lessons.
The Coaches are assisted on the ice by volunteers from our club called Program Assistants or PA’s. If you are interested in helping on or off the ice we are always looking for volunteers. Our PA’s are trained by our coaches to deliver the best quality CANSkate program possible. Our coaches and PA’s work as a team to ensure that your skaters have fun and achieve success on the ice. If your child needs some assistance we only allow parents on the ice for the first session, after this time we will NOT allow parents on the ice for insurance purposes unless previous arrangements have been made with Skate Brandon.
**Please ensure your child/children have CSA approved helmets and appropriate clothes for the rink (i.e. jacket, mitts). And there is absolutely NO GUM allowed on the ice.
*** NOTE ***
IF YOUR CHILD(REN) ARE SICK OR NOT FEELING WELL, PLEASE KEEP THEM AT HOME UNTIL THEY ARE BACK TO 100%. THIS WILL HELP NOT ONLY THEIR HEALTH, BUT THE HEALTH OF THE OTHER SKATERS, COACHES AND PARENTS. YOUR SKATER WILL BE CAUGHT UP ON ANYTHING HE OR SHE MAY MISS WHILE GETTING BETTER.
Remember to wash their skating clothes regularly, and DON’T FORGET TO INCLUDE THEIR MITTS!
If anyone has any concerns or comments the coaches are available for questions or you may call the Skate Brandon office anytime at 204-726-3585 or email us at . Good luck and enjoy your skating experience with us!
