Dear BTES and SBSE colleagues,
Thanks for all of your suggestions for resources to assist me in the development of my course on lighting and acoustics! Your collective insight has been invaluable and is very much appreciated.
For the benefit of others, please find below a compiled list of the suggestions that were offered:

Web RESOURCES
IESNA Fundamentals Course - Introductory IES Lighting Course
Includes downloadable materials on lighting including an on-line test under the Synthlight project.
Daylighting: Working daylight into design
This website accompanies the textbook listed above by Mike Wilson and Peter Tregenza.
BuildingGreen Website
Accessed through University subscription. There are case studies of high performance buildings and each will have information about lighting strategies. There will be longer feature articles and shorter primers. Also includes specific lighting products that are state of the art.
A good site for acoustics to help students learn the vocabulary, codes, and guidelines for different project types.
Software
AGi32
Uses: For lighting design and engineering. They have a great EDU program (free software installs for labs, faculty, and students) and a good set of tutorials that help in using the software. For doing luminaire layout, calculating illuminances, luminances, and realistic lighting visulization, including daylighting, AGI32 is great.
Limitations: There is no real easy way to determine energy savings with AGI32 and the software does not link directly with any other energy programs. Another limitation is that they only provide support to one faculty member who is the main contact. They don't answer support requests (except licenses) direct from students or other faculty.

EcoTect (Autodesk)
LightUp for SketchUp
For simple sun path studies -direct beam penetration with movie capability
PHPP
Passive House Planning Package Software
Distributed by the Passive House Institute in Darmstadt, Germany. English unit version can be obtained through Passive House Institute US. Training required, which is an intensive 9 day workshop in Passive House design and execution strategies and practices.
