Welcome to the ACLS ProviderCourse

Location: FCDPS Training Center, 1516 Franklin St, Rocky Mount, VA24151.

Please plan to arrive on time. Late students are not permitted to attend thecourse.

How to GetReady

The ACLS Provider Course is designed to teach you the lifesaving skills required to be bothateam member and a team leader in either an in-hospital or an out-of-hospital setting.Becausethe ACLS Provider Course covers extensive material in a short time, you will need to prepareforthe coursebeforehand.

Pre-courseRequirements

You should prepare for the course by doing thefollowing:

1.Complete the pre-course preparation checklist that came with your ACLS ProviderManual.Bring the checklist with you to thecourse.

2.Review the course agenda.

3.Review and understand the information in your ACLS Provider Manual.

Payparticularattention to the 10 cases in Part5.

4.The resuscitation scenarios require that your BLS skills and knowledge are current. Youwillbe tested on 1-rescuer adult CPR and AED skills at the beginning of the ACLSProviderCourse. You must know this in advance, since you will not be taught how to do CPR orhowto use anAED.

5.Review, understand, and complete the ECG and Pharmacology Pre-courseSelf-Assessmenton the Student Website You will not be taught how to readorinterpret ECGs in the course, nor will you be taught details about ACLSpharmacology.

6.Print your scores for the Pre-course Self-Assessment and bring them with you toclass.

What This Course Does NotCover

The ACLS Provider Course does not teach algorithms, ECG rhythm recognition,orpharmacology. If you do not learn and understand the ECG and pharmacology informationinthe Pre-course Self-Assessment, it is unlikely that you can successfully complete theACLSProviderCourse.

What to Bring and What toWear

Bring your ACLS Provider Manual to each class. You will need it during each lesson inthecourse. You may wish to purchase the AHA’s 2010 Handbook of EmergencyCardiovascularCare for Healthcare Providers (optional), which you may bring to the course to use asareference guide during some of the stations in thecourse.

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing to class. You will be practicing skills that require youtowork on your hands and knees, and the course requires bending, standing, and lifting. Ifyouhave any physical condition that might prevent you from engaging in these activities, pleasetellan instructor. The instructor may be able to adjust the equipment if you have back, knee, orhipproblems.
