Dear 3rd Grade Parents,

Today in your child’s class, we read the book, “Dneirf”, written by School Counselor, Mike Resh. This book focuses on the concept of “social conflict”. The emphasis in this book is to teach our students how to handle normal conflict on their own and that in fact, not every social issue is an act of bullying. According to Resh, “Dneirfs are not what we would define as a bully, but rather are just kids that because of other circumstances going on in their lives, don’t always stop and think, causing them to act the opposite to how a true friend would typically act.”

This lesson helps students bring self-awareness to their own actions. You did “A” so “C” happened. Your son/daughter investigated the cause and effect relationship and came up with solutions using conflict resolution.

Key: After a short amount of time and some self-reflection, a “Dneirf” recognizestheir actions and turns themselves around, showing empathy and remorse towards others.

Take some time to ask your child what a forward friend looks like and feel free to learn more about Dneirf by checking out

Thanks for your support!
