Dean, Bryan School of Business and Economics

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) is seeking nominations and applications for the position of Dean, Bryan School of Business and Economics. The University seeks an innovative, dynamic, and experienced individual to lead this School to the next level of excellence.

The Bryan School enrolls 2,441 undergraduate and 368 graduate students. Committed to excellence in teaching and research, with 73 full-time faculty and 35 staff, the School offers bachelor, master, and doctoral degrees. The School’s academic programs are offered in four academic units: Accounting and Finance, Business Administration, Economics, and Information Systems and Operations Management. The MBA Program is offered as a School-wide program.

The Dean of the Bryan School provides financial stewardship and innovative and visionary leadership in academic, administrative and professional matters, and in support of all faculty, staff, and students in the Bryan School. The Dean reports directly to the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor and is a member of the Deans Council.

The Dean’s responsibilities include:

  • providing a clear and effective strategy and vision for the School;
  • securing external funding for the School;
  • understanding the student population needs, strengthening graduate and undergraduate programs, and supporting student and career services;
  • promoting an intellectual, scholarly and collegial work environment;
  • cultivating a climate of collaboration among departments and between faculty and staff;
  • fostering innovation, entrepreneurship and excellence;
  • advancing technology to facilitate productivity and outcomes;
  • enhancing the visibility of the School in the community and outreach to business and the public sector;
  • supporting experiential learning, internships, online and other forms of non-traditional learning;
  • managing fiscal and personnel matters;
  • representing the School to the University and promoting business education;
  • enhancing a research environment that promotes external funding such as grants and contracts;
  • engaging alumni to help expand their opportunities and professional networks;
  • promoting efforts to establish a cross-disciplinary curriculum;
  • fostering a diverse faculty environment and promote the recruitment, retention and representation offemales andother under-represented groups;
  • continuing to build the international perspective of the Bryan School including curriculum and study-abroad programs; and
  • managing academic matters collaboratively through faculty governance.

Qualifications

The University seeks a dynamic, talented person of vision and proven leadership with administrative management, budgetary responsibility, fundraising, grant-getting experience, and an established record of working with business leaders. The successful candidate will be able to encourage and inspire a diverse faculty both as individuals and as an academic community with a demonstrated commitment to academic excellence, equity, and educational opportunity. It is expected that the Dean will have effective communication and public relations skills and be able to forge productive links with the University’s academic units and external constituencies. It is expected that the Dean have experience with developing and implementing technology and distance education initiatives.
