Please preparea complete application packetandmail oremail yourapplicationtothe State Shooting Sports Coordinator.The Committee will select two candidates per region they will be identified as our primary and secondary candidates. The secondarycandidatewill be accepted depending onspace availability.Applicantsmustbeatleast 12yearsofage by January 1, 2019to apply. It is recommended that the candidates also have at least one year left in 4-H.

All applicants selected to serve as Missouri Shooting Sports Ambassadors must attend a one-day training session to be held at the Missouri State 4-H Center for Youth Development in Columbia on July 20th 2019.

1.A letterofreferencefrom yourcounty4-HShooting Sports Coordinator or Discipline Instructor and one from the 4-H Specialist / Educator responsible for your county.

Missouri4-H Shooting SportsAmbassador Programisdesignedtopromote 4-H and 4-H Shooting Sports.Youth selectedtoserve asAmbassadorswill receivetraining thatwill allow themtoreturntotheirhomes andadvocateforthe programatthecounty,regional,andstate level. Ambassadorsprovide public relations supportatspecialeventssuchas donor/sponsorfunctionsandalso serve as spokespersonsforthe4-H Shooting SportsProgram, helping tomake4-H andthe 4-H Shooting SportsProgramsmore visible. TheAmbassador’sfurtherdeveloptheirskillsin leadership,public presentation,citizenship,communityservice,publicrelations andteambuilding.

PURPOSE,GOALS,OBJECTIVES

The4-H Shooting SportsAmbassadorprogramwill provide a venue for4-H Teensto:

1.Represent 4-H andspecifically4-H Shooting Sportsforpublicrelationspurposes at special events;atdonor/sponsorfunctionsandwith thegeneralpublic,4-Hgroups,community service organizations,schoolsandmedia contacts.

2.Serve asspokespersonsforthe 4-H Shooting Sportsprogramattheirrespective levelsof participation–national,regional,state,county-helpingtomake 4-H Shooting Sports programsmorevisible.

3.Furtherdevelop theirskillsin leadership,publicpresentation,citizenship,community service,publicrelationsand teambuilding.

4.Assistinmaintaining relationswith 4-H Facultyand Extension Administratorsaswell as past,presentandfutureprogramdonorsandsupporters.

5.Continue and expand theirinvolvementin 4-H Shooting Sportsbeyondthe shooting skills and competitive events.

6.Stayactivelyconnected with the4-H ShootingSportsprogramastheyentertheircollegiate yearsandfurtherintoadulthood.

PROGRAMEXPECTATIONS

Bybeingselectedasa Missouri4-H Shooting SportsAmbassador,you willbe representingover 8,0004-H youth in Missouri.Whatyou sayand do isveryimportant. Remember,you nevergetasecond chance tomake agood firstimpression.AsanAmbassadoryoumaymeetwith donorswho are CEO’sofcompanies ororganizations and you alwaysneed toputyourbestfootforward.The way you dress,theway you speakandactare veryimportantwhen you areservingasan Ambassador.

  • You are expected to present at your county’s Regional Extension Energizer on the promotion of Missouri’s 4-H Shooting Sports Program.
  • You are expected to assist at any local sponsor (NRA, NWTF, MidwayUSA, MDC etc.) event and/or banquet. You will be required to attend at least 1 per year
  • You areexpectedtobeon time,so planto beearlyto anyevent.
  • You needtorespond promptlytoanyemailsorphone callsfromtheProgram Coordinatorand/or the volunteer coordinator and yourchaperonfortheevent.
  • Itisveryimportantthatyou sendthankyou notes immediatelyfollowingthe event. You will be given namesand addressessothatyou canfulfill thisobligation.
  • You maygettired atevents,butyou alwaysneed tobe cheerfulandreadyto respond positivelyto everyone.
  • A matureattitude andoutlookisrequired.
  • Ambassadorsmaybe askedbytheState Shooting SportsCoordinatororthe Volunteer Coordinator toserve asarepresentative ata local, regional, orstateevent.
  • Program Coordinator must approve events that you seek on your own
  • Attendance at the State Shoot and Shooting Sports Day at the State Fair will be required even if you are not a participant.
  • Participation and active involvement on at least one of the sub committees will be required.

BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS

A goal ofthe4-HShooting SportsAmbassadorsprogramistoprovide opportunitiesforyouthto build characteranddevelop theirleadership skills. Ambassadorsare expectedto upholdthe4-HCode ofConductatalltimes.

DRESS CODE

Ambassadorsare expected todress in amannerbefittingyoung men and women. Modesty, neatness,well groomedand practicalitywill be theguidingprinciples. Attention todetailsis important,so here are sometipsforbothmen andwomen.Make sureyou have:

  • well-groomed hairstyle
  • cleaned andtrimmedfingernails
  • minimal cologne orperfume
  • no visible bodypiercing beyond conservative earpiercingsforwomen
  • well-brushed teeth andfresh breath
  • nogum,candy,orotherobjectsin yourmouth
  • minimal jewelry
  • no bodyodor

Ambassadorsarenottoweartorn(intentionalorotherwise)orsloppyclothing.Tanktops,muscle shirts,baremidriffs,lownecklines,sundresses,and tightorotherwise revealingclothingwill notbe allowed.Thisappliestoall spandexfashions.T-shirtswith negative,outlandish,disrespectfulmessages orpictureswill notbe allowed. Also, you are representing 4-H, shirts with the logos of other youth organizations should not be worn. Ambassadorsaretohave no visible tattoos.

Ambassadorsmaywearshortsandskirtsofmodeststyle and length.

Shorts, skorts, and skirts must be at least finger-tip length, with arms extended and shoulders relaxed, while standing, so that modesty is maintained at all times.Females- Blouses/shirtsmustbe tucked in when low-rise slacks/jeans/skirts/are worn.Males– Casualordressslacks shouldbe wornwith shirttailstucked in. All footwearshould beclean,neat,shined andadhere to the Missouri Shooting Sports footwear policy.

When servingasa Missouri4-H Shooting SportsAmbassador,you need to rememberthat you arerepresenting the4-H ShootingSportsyouthtothe publicandyouneed tomakethe best impression possible.
