It is hard to believe that the summer break is over and we are already in our second week of school! The time is flying by! The students have returned to WLA willing and ready to learn and the teachers have expressed their own excitement in having all of the kidsback at school. The 2016-17 school year is off to a fantastic start!
Please know that our WLA teachers and administration are always available to answer any questions you may have and/or hear your feedback. We love and appreciate our WLA families and we are always willing to help when we can.
In this first newsletter of the school year, you will find a few updates and bits of information that may be helpful as we jump into the new school year.
On August 21, 2017, Georgia will experience the first total solar eclipse in 38 years. A solar eclipse occurs when the sun appears to darken because the moon passes between the Earth and the sun, causing the moon to temporarily cast its shadow on Earth. As you can imagine, this event creates a great teachable moment for our students in the Hall County School District. Teachers across the district will be teaching students about the solar eclipse. While this is a great learning opportunity, we must also understand that looking at the sun during an eclipse might cause serious injury to the eyes. The eclipse is anticipated to occur between 1:00-4:00 p.m.and our area is expected to experience the greatest impact around 2:30 p.m. Because of the timing of the eclipse, we are concerned about the safety of children on the school bus andthe safety of student drivers with regard to staringinto the sun. Therefore, school dismissal will be delayed. Specific information as it relates to WLA will be sent home soon.
**Due to the fact that students will be in school longer on August 21st, Hall County Schools will be dismissed two hours early on December 15th - the day before winter break.

¡Es difícil creer que las vacaciones de verano han terminado y ya estamos en la segunda semana de clases! ¡El tiempo está volando! Los estudiantes han regresado a WLA dispuestos y listospara aprender y los maestros están contentos de tener a todos los niños de vuelta en la escuela. ¡El año escolar 2016-17 ha tenido un comienzo fantástico!
Recuerdan que nuestros maestros y la administración de WLA estánsiempredisponibles para contestar cualquier pregunta que usted pueda tener y/o escuchar sus comentarios. Queremos y apreciamos a nuestras familias en WLA y siempre estamos dispuestos a ayudar si es posible.
En este primer boletín del año escolar, encontrará algunas actualizaciones e información que pueden ser útiles a medida que avanzamos en el nuevo año escolar.

El 21 de agosto de 2017, Georgia experimentará el primer eclipse solar total en 38 años. Un eclipse solar ocurre cuando el sol parece obscurecerse porque la luna pasa entre la tierra y el sol, haciendo que la luna proyecte temporalmente su sombra en la tierra. Como se puede imaginar, este evento genera un gran momento de enseñanza para nuestros estudiantes en el Distrito Escolar del Condado de Hall. Los maestros de todo el distrito estarán enseñando a los estudiantes sobre el eclipse solar. Si bien esta es una gran oportunidad de aprendizaje, también debemos entender que mirando al sol durante un eclipse puede causar lesiones graves a los ojos. El eclipse ocurrirá entre la 1:00 y 4: 00 p.m. En nuestra área se espera el mayor impacto alrededor de las 2:30 p.m. Debido a la hora del eclipse, nos preocupa la seguridad de los niños en el autobús y la seguridad de los estudiantes que al conducir estén mirando al sol. Por lo tanto, la salida se retrasará. La información específica relacionada con WLA será enviada a casa pronto.
**Debido al hecho de que los estudiantes estarán en la escuela por más tiempo el 21 de agosto, las escuelas del condado de Hall saldrán dos horas antes el 15 de diciembre, el día antes de las vacaciones de invierno.
