CROS CAMPS

Day Camp Counselor Application

CROS CAMPS Day Camp program is a six-week camp for elementary age children from families classified as low-income. The Christian camp gives children, who would otherwise be home alone, a safe and nurturing place to be in the summer time. The camp also gives children the opportunity to discover God’s unconditional love, while they enjoy arts and crafts, recreation, Bible study, speakers, music and more. The campers are referred to us by schoolteachers, counselors, foster parents, social workers, churches, and other caring people. There is no cost to the parents.

Day Camp 2009 will be held June 15th through July 24th, Monday through Friday; operating hours vary per campsite. The Day Camps will be held in Lake Worth at CalvaryUnitedMethodistChurch, in Delray Beach at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, and in Belle Glade at CommunityUnitedMethodistChurch.

Day Camp gives young people the opportunity

to share God’s unconditional love through their gifts and talents.

Day Camp Counselors (14 years an older) help during meal times, assist with the daily activities, fill in for or help the camp staff when needed and assist with recreation and or craft activities. In addition, a counselor may be responsible for a group of campers. The counselor will then ensure that the children take part in the daily activities by helping them with a game, a craft project, etc. This is a special time in which the counselor has the opportunity to share God’s unconditional love on a one-on-one basis.

Counselors must be at least 14 years old and be actively participating in theircongregation. The counselor should have some experience working with children; be able to work in a group setting; and have a passion and compassion for underprivileged children. Background screening will be performed on all counselors. There is a cost of $40per applicant, which partially covers the cost of the background screening.

Mandatory training for all counselors will be held Friday, June 12th from 8:30 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. Training will be held in Lake Worth at CalvaryUnitedMethodistChurch.

Day Camp is directed and supervised by Christians Reaching Out to Society, Inc.(C.R.O.S. Ministries); an ecumenical, interfaith ministry serving Palm BeachCounty.
