Dr. E’s ENRICHMENTPRESCRIPTION

NAME______

Given your advanced performance on the Topic ______pretest, you have qualified for enrichment math. While you performed very well, you still demonstrated a need to learn more about the current Topic. You should fully participate during the entire class for the lessons listed below:

______

For the lessons in this topic not listed above, you will follow a bit of a different path than the rest of the class. You should always join the rest of us in reviewing the homework from the prior night and in solving the “Problem of the Day.” You should also join the rest of us to start the new lesson to ensure your true understanding of the target that day. However, once you feel confident in your mastery of the target, you are free to move on to your enrichment work. Your enrichment work entails a diverse schedule of self-directed challenges that will enhance your knowledge of the current topic, as well as other topics of your choosing. The schedule below entails work that should be completed during class and not outside of class. You are still required to complete the homework assignments offered to all but are encouraged to choose the enrichment assignment each night.

DAY 1: Blended Schools Enrichment Math Lesson Sites (Laptop needed)

Go to your teacher’s blended schools site. Find the “Enrichment Math Lesson Sites” folder and choose a lesson video to watch and expand your math repertoire! As evidence of your learning, you will turn in a notebook page with a solid written essay explanation of your new learning and at least 3 examples of problems you are able to solve.

DAY 2: IB WorldScapes

This program will give you a unique learning experience that integrates math and reading. You will read short non-fiction stories about math use in history, space and technology advancement. The stories are set in different countries throughout the world and offer you a peek into other cultures. Your teacher will provide you with the book and worksheet needed to complete your WorldScape!

DAY 3: Partner Problem Solving

You and a partner of your choosing (must also be someone qualified for enrichment) will complete some problem solving in the textbook related to the current class topic. You must show all of your work on notebook paper but you and your partner need only to turn in one work page.

DAY 4: BrainBuster Day

You will build problem solving and critical thinking skills as you work through a hands-on math brainteaser, using hints and solutions to help scaffold learning as needed. The "A Ha! Moment" that comes from solving a brainteaser encourages you to exercise logic in new ways and builds confidence to take on more difficult challenges. If you conquer that day’s hands-on challenge…you will move on to aBrainBuster Challenge Card. If you correctly solve all problems on the card, you can earn Scholars’ Club points towards the current 9 weeks.

DAY 5: Enrichment Math Class with Mr. Jackson or Mrs. Hoedeman

Today you will travel to another teacher for math enrichment. At the time listed below for your homeroom, you don’t need to ask…just up and go! Keep in mind, you are still responsible for our homework assignment for tonight. Be sure to grab a copy and write down the assignment before you go…

Goelz Homeroom: Mr. Jackson 9:25-10:10

Clark Homeroom: Mrs. Hoedeman 11:30-12:15

Garvey Homeroom: Mr. Jackson 1:15-1:55

DAY 6: Scholars’ Club Performance Assessments (Laptop possibly needed)

For each of our topics, there is an advanced performance assessment to determine how well you can apply current topics in real-life situations. You should print a copy of this topic’s assessment from your teacher’s Blended Schools page and complete it, showing all work. If you complete the SCPA, you may explore the “Fun Math Websites” folder in Blended Schools for some math gaming fun.
