EDITORIAL POLICY
FOR THE PUBLICATION OF BOOK REVIEWS
The Quebec Journal of International Law (QJIL) aims to offer access to research and practice in international law, from the public as well as the private field in Quebec, within the francophone community and beyond. It mainly publishes analyses, notes and book reviews. Being the only international law journal of the Americas to publish mainly in French, but also in English and Spanish, the QJIL distinguishes itself by its promotion of Quebec on the international level.
In order to reflect its commitment to promoting the access of analyses on international law emanating from Quebec, the QJIL has adopted a new policy for the publication of book reviews. The reviewed books must be written by authors attached to a Quebec institution, including Ottawa institutions, or be published by a Quebec publisher. The QJIL thus aims to offer to its readers a critical access to the most recent Quebec publications on topics of international law.
Members of the academic community interested in publishing a review can select a book from the list provided by the QJIL. This list is not exhaustive, and therefore, interested authors might submit another book that is in conformity with this policy. The QJIL submits each review to an internal and external evaluation process. It offers to the author the reviewed book permanently, subject to the acceptance of the review for publication.

guidelines
- The electronic version of the review shall be sent to the associate editor responsible for book reviews () about 4 weeks after the book is delivered (the date must be agreed to with the editor). After this deadline, the book must be returned to the QJIL’s office in order to be assigned to a new author.
- The review must be written in a WORD (.doc or .docx) format, Times New Roman police, size 12, and single-spaced.
- The maximum length for a simple book review is 4 to 6 pages (1000 to 1500 words).
- The book review is essentially descriptive but must include a critical commentary. It normally adopts the following structure:
Introduction – short presentation / contextualisation of the book i.e. where does it stand in literature? Link with current events? Information regarding the author must be included in this section (1-2 lines). The methodology must be outlined at this stage as well (1-2 paragraphs).
> Thesis – presentation of the central argument or thesis defended by the author (1-2 paragraphs).
> Subject break-down – presentation of the demonstration of the author and of subsidiary arguments/thesis/hypothesis. One idea per paragraph (3-4 pages).
> Critic – Critical commentary on form and content (1 paragraph minimum).

- References and citations must rescpect the rules set by the Canadian Guide to Uniform Legal Citation, 8th ed., Scarborough, Carswell, 2014.
- Proposed manuscripts will be submitted to internal and external evaluation proceedings. The committee responsible for the scientific quality of book reviews can:
è Refuse the review;
è Accept the review subject to modifications (major or minor);
è Accept the review without modifications.
Moreover, the committee may, with the editor-in-chief, at its discretion, decide to publish the review either in the printed format of the QJIL or on its website.
