Advanced Placement CalculusAB

A. PhilipRandolphCampusHigh School has a reputation for academic excellence. We provide all students with a college preparatory curriculum. A key component of this curriculum is the opportunity to participate in the Advanced Placement (AP) Program.

The AP Program benefits students by introducing them to the challenge of college courses. Success in these courses facilitates success in college. The exposure to college-level courses while still in high school strengthens students’ academic skills and confidence, enabling them to better meet the demands of college. Those who participate may be eligible to receive advanced placement standing, college credit, or both when they enter college.

An AP course is both more challenging and stimulating than a regular high school course. It explores the subject in greater depth and requires more work.

A.P. Calculus AB is a one year course which is equivalent to approximately 1 ½ semesters of college Calculus 1-2. It prepares students to take the three-hour Advanced Placement Examination in Calculus during the month of May. The test consists of multiple choice and free response questions. Topics covered include function analysis, derivatives and their applications, indefinite and definite integrals and their applications, the relationship between the definite integral and derivative in both parts of the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, modeling situations with Calculus, communicating mathematics orally and in well-written sentences, and using technology to help solve problems, experiment, interpret results and verify conclusions. For more information, please go to We expect that Ms. Reisman will be teaching the class next year.

have a love of mathematics

be willing to do the additional homework required of A.P. course students including much more in-depth reading & problem sets (at least one hour per night)

have already passed the three math Regents examinations. Received a score of 80 or higher on at least one of those exams.

maintain a satisfactory attendance and disciplinary record
