Resolution: Resolved; That West Jacksonville Branch 126 earnestly solicit the support and endorsement of all branches in the S.E. Region for the candidacy of James J. Thomas for the office of Regional Vice President, Fleet Reserve Association for the association year 2016-2017.

FROM THE SER PRESIDENT:

Shipmates, this has been a very busy Mid-year for me. I have travelled to the following branches since 1 Jan 2016:

Br 339 Albany, GA

Br 034 Tallahassee, FL

Br 117 Orlando, FL

Br 183 Interlachen, FL

Br 126 S. Jacksonville, FL

Br 290 Atlantic Beach, FL

Br 291 New Port Richey, FL

Br 346 Panama City, FL

Br 335 Port Orange, FL

Br 091 Jacksonville, FL

I plan to visit the following branches this

Month:

Br 089 Atlanta, GA

Br 147 Sanford, FL

Br 250 Saratoga, FL

Br 386 Dothan, FL

I attended the GA/SC Caucus at Goose Creek, SC.

I attended the Blackthorn Celebration, I have a history with the Blackthorn as I dove from it in Viet Nam in 1969-1970 on salvage and recovery missions. When the USS VA Fogg blew up and sank offshore of Galveston, TX in 1975, I was one of the underwater photographers who videoed the entire ship in and out from the Blackthorn.

I attended the Mid-Year meeting at Jacksonville, FL. I have travelled 2686 miles so far this year. At the GA/SC Caucus I recommended that the caucuses change their meeting times and place to join with the Mid-Year meeting to save travel and money. This idea was met with enthusiasm and questions. In order to put this in effect the branches in each caucus would have to vote on it and if all agree a resolution will be brought to the S.E. Regional Convention for approval. This would only mean a pen and ink change in the caucus by-laws. I will attend the TN caucus next week and give them the same info, In the event that there is no Mid- Year meeting the caucuses would have to do their own meeting at their choosing. I sincerely want to thank Branch and Unit 126 for our very successful Mid- Year meeting. The attendance of branches and units was far more than we expected. Thanks to all of you who attended. A lot of good information was put out. All of the American/ Patriotism essays were graded by the help of many Shipmates. I hope we will have twice as many Shipmates and Ladies at our Regional Convention. I will be at the National BOD meeting at headquarters 13 to 17 of April. I will have my laptop and cell phone with me. .

IAW CB/L 1206, Br 110, Nashville, TN will have taken all required actions to surrender their charter prior to the National BOD meeting in April 2016. J.T. Smith will email all required materials to FRA National Headquarters prior to 13 April 2016. I talked extensively with J.T. Smith at the TN Caucus. At Br 110 last meeting all 96 shipmates voted to turn in their charter. He could not persuade them not to. I have been in contact with Branch and Unit 386, Dothan, AL. They have invited me and Br 112, Birmingham, AL President Wayne Odell to their meeting on 27 April 2016 to discuss keeping Branch and Unit 386 operational. This is a good sign as I expected them to turn in their charter.

Note of interest:

If no one actually runs for RPSE, I am willing to take on a second year.

With LP&S

RPSE Dave Davis

FROM THE SER VICE PRESIDENT

Shipmates the Southeast Region needs your resolution to serve as the RPSE 2016-2017, I will not be asking my Branch to submit a resolution on my behalf.

My wife, Darlene, has a serious medical condition. She has an enlarged aorta artery, medically described as a thoracic aorta aneurism. Darlene asked her cardiologist if she was goingto become a member of the “zipper club”. He responded,” Yes, big time. On a scale of one to ten, eight being a heart bypass operation, your operation would be a ten”. The cardiologist has referred Darlene to a heart surgeon to repair the aneurism. The recovery time for the surgery is six to eight weeks. The good news is cardiologist believes we should be able to make our grandson’s graduation cruise on June 5th. Consequently, I will not seek the office of RPSE. The uncertainty of when Darlene will have her surgery and the resulting time of recuperation injects a lot of uncertainty into our immediate futures .Darlene and my family will be my focus in the coming months. There’s simply no time left for me to perform the duties of RPSE.
