2.Project Title: Arcade Creek: Tackling the Impacts of Urbanization
3.Project Purpose – Problem Being Addressed: The purpose of this project is to: increase stakeholder involvement in the Arcade Creek Watershed Group through recruitment of a watershed coordinator and development of a watershed website; encourage public stewardship of Arcade Creek through increased outreach efforts and public education; improve decision-making in the watershed by developing a comprehensive Phase II Watershed Management Plan for improving water quality, minimizing flood damage, improving riparian and aquatic habitat, and enhancing recreation opportunities in the watershed; enhance riparian habitat and biodiversity in the creek corridor by developing a plan to better manage invasive non-native plant species and initiating the Phase I Watershed Management Plan; construct a wetlands/filtration basin to improve water quality, attenuate peak flows, improve habitat quality, and to provide environmental education to visitors.
4.Project Goals
a.Short-term Goals: Increase participation in the Arcade Creek Watershed Group; enhance public awareness of the use of environmental restoration to treat urban runoff; increase public awareness of effects of household chemicals on stream water quality; improve communication of watershed management issues to Watershed Group and general public; and improve watershed planning.
b.Long-term Goals: Enhance riparian and aquatic habitat and improve water quality and reduce flood peaks in Arcade Creek.
5.Project Location: (lat/longs, watershed, etc.) The project is located in the Arcade Creek Watershed. The Del Paso Regional Park Detention/Filtration Wetland is located in the Norris Tributary that flows under Auburn Blvd. at the intersection of Norris Ave. and then to Arcade Creek.
