PO/EO:M107.03TOPIC: Rules and Procedures for Paying Compliments

LESSON PURPOSE:The purpose of this lesson if for cadets to learn the proper procedures for paying compliments and when compliments should be paid.

STUDENT OUTCOMES:

Students will understand how to address senior NCMs, subordinate officers, and commissioned officers, how to enter and exit an office properly, and other occasions to salute.

PRIOR KNOWLEDGE:

Cadets should already know the ranks of air cadets and officers. Cadets should already have a general understanding of how to salute from drill classes.

LESSON:

Part I: Introduction

Cadets will participate in simulation activity on the history of saluting.

Have cadets stand up and imagine they are knights riding on their horses. Have them imagine that they saw another knight approaching on his horse. Because of their thick visors they cannot see who it is so they raise their hand to flip their visor. They notice that the other knight is an ally so they hold their right hand in the air to show that they are not going to draw their sword. The other approaching knight recognizes you and does the same.
