(Data systems/Network engineer with emphasis on scripting)

*** At least a Secret Security Clearance Required***

By Light has an opening for a Data systems/network engineer with special emphasis on creation of scripts in TCL/TK, Perl and/or PHP scripting languages.

Responsible for creation of scripts to automate test plans to facilitate testing of advanced network systems within existing DISA advanced technologies test bed laboratory. This includes, but is not limited to, performing detailed liaison with project lead, network and optical systems engineers to coordinate the structure of scripts and their implementation intro the test bed.

The technologies for these test efforts include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Network Accelerators
• Network Management Systems (passive and active)
• Routers (Core, Metro, and Edge)
• Optical Cross Connects
• Dense or Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) devices

This task includes the generation of a detailed generic Unified Capabilities (UC) Test Procedures (TPs) in accordance with the Unified Capabilities Requirements (UCR) 2008 Change 1 and subsequent versions of the UCR.
For Non-Optical/Non-Switch products, the test methodology includes, but is not limited to, evaluation of the following:

  • Network Accelerators
  • Data Caching (Router/ Switch End to End)
  • Header Compression
  • Adaptive Data Compression
  • Network Management System
  • Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)
  • Modules Information Base (MIB)
  • Fault Identification
  • Capacity Planning
  • Service Level Agreements
  • Interoperability with other Network Management Systems
  • Routers
  • Transport (QoS, Latency, Information Integrity)
  • Network Management (Remote Configuration, Automated Fault,
  • Automated Element Status, Network Status, Situational End to End Awareness)
  • Interoperability (IJCSI, Standards, Switching/Routing/Transmission)

For optical cross connects and DWDM/CWDM products, the test methodology includes, but is not limited to, evaluation of the following:

• Fault Management
• Performance monitoring

• Provisioning
• Long-term BER (bit error rate) testing
• Linear APS (automatic protection switching) testing • BLSR (bidirectional line-switched ring) testing

UPSR (unidirectional path switched ring) testing
Spectral domain measurements including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Channel Power
  • Channel Center Wavelength and Spacing o Signal-to-Noise Ratio
  • Crosstalk
  • Total Optical Power
