Role Purpose
  1. To ensure that organisational data and relevant information is available to internal stakeholders to inform strategic planning, business operations and management decision-making.
  2. To analyse and report organisational data to meet formal Tertiary Education Commission, Wintec Council and internal reporting requirements and timelines.
  3. To consult with key internal stakeholders to deliver knowledge and information in a user-friendly, audience-appropriate, timely and efficient manner.
  4. To improve the quality and efficiency of the Knowledge Unit’s team’s systems, procedures and data.

Providing accurate and timely analysis to meet Wintec reporting and decision making requirements. / Internal data is collated and reported to external agencies (e.g., The Ministry of Education, the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC))
Analysis and reporting is delivered to inform Wintec activities like (but not limited to): strategic planning, annual reporting, the Investment Plan, projects, modelling and forecasting and information requests
Information is presented in a way that enables actionable insights and meets the needs of the audience, from Executive Team members to stakeholders managing academic, corporate and financial decisions across Wintec
Reporting and analysis is accurate and of a high quality.
Developing and maintaining processes to identify trends and information to enable wise organisational decision-making. / Processes to source and integrate external data that helps Wintec anticipate future trends and inform planning and strategic decision-making are developed. Some examples of kinds of relevant information include: Statistics New Zealand, government policy, economic environment, education sector trends, regional development data
Information is provided in a timely and efficient way that meets the needs of organisational decision makers.
Contributing to the development and management of Business Intelligence Tools. / Existing dashboards are maintained and updated in line with internal client needs, using systems like Microsoft Excel, PowerPivot and Power BI
New dashboards are developed by extracting data from the data warehouse or other data source and incorporated into a dashboard or report suitable to a range of different users.
Championing organisation-wide knowledge sharing. / Guidance about the use of information tools and reports provided to users
Information is communicated in a way that builds the capability of others to interpret and make use of the data.

Competency Specification
Education / training / ESSENTIAL: A relevant tertiary qualification
PREFERRED/DESIRABLE: Bachelor Degree in Information Technology, Information Management or equivalent.
Experience / Essential: Previous work experience as a data analyst, reporting analyst, database developer, database administrator or business analyst. Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Excel (to an advanced level) and T-SQL for the extraction and analysis of data
Preferred / Desirable: Experience using and developing front-end Microsoft Business Intelligence tools, namely PowerPivot and Power BI
Work experience in the tertiary education sector
Experience applying statistics, analytics and trend analysis in real-world situations
