JOB TITLE:1000 Lives Community Connector
(Events)

REPORTING TO: / 1000 Lives facilitator
RESPONSIBLE FOR: / No budget or line management responsibilities, but the postholder may be required to supervise the work of other volunteers
EXPENSES: / Travel and out of pocket expenses provided
TRAINING: / Training, mentoring and other learning opportunities will be provided based on a mutually agreed development plan.
We encourage our volunteers to undertake the 1000 LivesCommunity Champions course and gain a Certificate of Credit in Speaking Up, if desired.
LOCATION: / Volunteers Suite, Changes Well Being Centre, Booth St, Stoke-on-Trent and / or from your home

ORGANISATIONAL OVERVIEW

1000 Lives supports Community Champions in Stoke on Trent by providinga range of training, network opportunities and online resource bank. This helps people develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to speak up about what is important to them, to work more effectively in local communities and to improve the health and well being of the residents of Stoke on Trent.

1000 Lives is funded by Stoke on Trent City Council and managed by Changes. The 1000 Lives team are people from Imagine Associates, Revolution Earth and the Creative Communities Unit at Staffordshire University, and people who are active in their own communities. Between us we have specialist skills in community development, social media, evaluation, event organising, training and equality and diversity. We work in partnership with other organisations who recruit, train and support community champions – to pool resources for mutual benefit.

PURPOSE OF THE VOLUNTEER:

To support local residents to become community champions and to support existing community champions by enabling them to take partin Network events. This will involve planning and running of events.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. work with the 1000 Lives team to plan, organise and monitor events
  2. contribute to the planning, delivery and monitoring of 1000 Lives community champions Network activity
  3. contribute to the planning, delivery and monitoring of 1000 Lives community champions Network activity

TASKS

  1. Use your experiences as a community activist and in partnership working to engage with organisations which support community champions
  2. Helpplan, co-ordinate and facilitate 1000 Lives Community Champions Network events, supporting people to take part.
  3. Assist with publicity for events for the 1000 LivesNetwork.
  4. Attend 1000 Lives team meetings, supervision, induction, appraisal and training as agreed with the 1000 Lives coordinators
  5. Do your own administration where possible, e.g. word processing, report preparation, photocopying, filing, etc.
  6. Work within all of the Changespolicies, in particular Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities and Confidentiality.
  7. Help to make sure that diversity and equality of opportunity is integral to our work.
  8. Undertake other tasks from time to time and as appropriate, that may be required.

EXPERIENCE

Experience of volunteering/ working in your community
Experience of organising meetings and events
Experience of working with people from difference backgrounds
Experience of working in a team to deliver shared aims and objectives
KNOWLEDGE
A good understanding of how people communicate face to face during meetings and events
A good understanding of outcomes and how these might be applied to networking and engagement activities
SKILLS and ABILITY
Very good influencing and negotiating skills
Self motivating with good problem solving skills
Very good personal organisation and planning skills
Excellent communication skills including active listening
Able to work occasional evenings and weekends by prior arrangement
